I recently (about a month ago) installed a 4" Pro Comp spring lift on my 91 K5. Other than the lift, the drive train is bone stock, consisting of a 350, the 700r4, stock transfer case, stock differentials, etc.

Since installing the lift, i have noticed what i would consider a VERY slight drive shaft vibration at certain speeds.

Today when i got home, i noticed that the transmission has started to slightly leak. Not much, just a few drops, but i obviously want to nip this in the bud before it becomes an issue.

Being the first lifted vehicle i have owned, i am trying to find the best starting point for diagnosing the issue, and want to first elminate the lift having caused the issue. I am starting here because the lift DID NOT consist of a transfer case lowering kit.

Ultimately, my questions are:

1. what EXACTLY does the transfer case lowering kit do?
2. is there a chance that this could have created the transmission leak?

The ATF leak could be something as simple as a breather tube on top of the trans and or the seal on the slip yoke for the rear drive line.

Also a transfer case lowering kit lowers the whole back end of the transmission and transfer case assembly to usually compensate for drive line vibrations. the kit only contains some bushings or spacers to lower the cross member from the frame which is holding the transfer case. (note that these spacers create stress risers on the frame which could result in the frame cracking at the cross member bolts)

As to figuring out the source of the leak, I would use some solvent spray to give it a good shine, then take a look under there from time to time to see where any drips or runs are coming from.

Hope this helps ;)
