it has a 454 and the previous owner toasted the tranny, i was a wood haulin truck with a 4l80e and it wasnt shiftn to 1st and it is now beyond repair, a replacement 4l80e is $$$$$. My ? is can i put a 4l60e in it, the 4l80 is hard to find for a 91 model. if its possible to put a cheaper tranny in it please let me know what has to be done to make this happen or am i just gonna have to break down and save money. i was priced 1200 and that was the cheapest going all the way to 1800.

Any gas 4L80E will fit. The only change is the chassis transmission harness. It needs to have a '93 & up pigtail put on it. Even if you find a '91 or '92 you should do it anyway, the 1st gen connector sucked balls.

so the connector on the side of the tranny is the only diff. its just rearranged differently. so for 6 months ive been searching for a 91 to 92 tranny and ive found a zillion and a 98 model for 400 bux and i passed it up. dohhhh. if i cant get the pig tail with the new tranny can i buy the connector elsewhere.

Any trans shop will have it for about $50. You need the ATSG book pages 96 and 97 or a wiring diagram because they didn't use the same wire colors.
