Hi all,

I have got a 91 Blazer and cannot seem to get a solid answer on an engine swap. Currently it is a stock 350 TBI with MSD ignition along with exhaust. I am just wondering has anyone swapped for a Vortec or newer motor and would you need to upgrade tranny? Any help is appreciated.

Getting to be a common swap here. I'm at the tail end of a 5.3 LM7 4L60e swap in my 90 Blazer. Check the driveway forum for more.

What exactly are you asking?

Is the swap hard, not at all.

Will your only trans work... Well it really depends on the engine you select. Bolting up, no problem. Power rating, that depends on the engine you want to use and the trans you have.

Wiring, not a problem. We convert harnesses and tune all day. If you want to wire your self check out lt1swap.com. Excellent info on wiring.

Exhaust, its totally different manifolds. You could reuse most of it though.

Dash/gauges, not a problem.

Fuel system. You would upgrade the in tank pump for one that would supply the correct amount of fuel. Its very easy.

Engine mounting. Well, you will have to clearance the crossmember in a 4x4 rig. A few companies sell new ones that fit. You can buy motor mount adapters and use your stock motor mounts on the LS. You will most likely need to redrill holes for the rear crossmember. You can buy adjustable engine mount adapters and not have to re drill.

AC. If you have ac you have options. You can clearance the frame for the LS AC comp. You can buy brackets to move and use your old one too.
