Looking for some decent direction. This is a project for my 14 yo and me. Truck runs, doesn’t drive. The throw out bearing went and it’s been parked for a while. I’m thinking we can rebuild the transmission, replace the clutch while we have it apart…I’m a little intimidated by the body work side of it…wondering what it could cost realistically. I know this is the place to come for knowledge.
I’m pretty mechanical but this is the first project like this I’m attempting.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Just thinking that while we have it apart, doing as much as possible is prudent. Bad idea?

I have used 465s in multiple vehicles. I have resealed all of them. Pull the shifter cover make sure everything looks good, if so new gaskets and seals and run it. I have also run the cheap 11" clutches with no issues.

Okay. Thanks for responses. I just don’t wanna half ass it. Such a cool project. Stickshift is what drew me to it.

That's a pretty unique bird right there. I doubt the 465 is hurt either. Pull the trans to replace the t/o bearing, reseal the trans, and stuff it back in with a fresh clutch.

Congrats on the new project. You have found THE source for info on these trucks. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you are unsure of something.

It’s finally home! It was running. We tried to “hop” it off the trailer by cranking it in gear. We made it angry. I’m guessing we trashed the starter. Getting it running is obviously # 1. After that, I wanna try to bleed the clutch just because…who knows? If not, we’ll replace the clutch and work on getting wheels off, cleaning up rims and getting tires mounted…so at least it can roll. If a new clutch gets it driving, we can move it around in the driveway and start working on rust on the frame, mechanical stuff and…pulling out interior the get to the floor and see more abt what we have going on.
Always open to suggestions/opinions.

Before bleeding the clutch I’d be curious if the reservoir has fluid in it. If it don’t have fluid then where did it go? Either the master is leaking and that may go inside onto the floor of the truck or the slave is leaking. The slave is on the back of the block and should be easy to see if it’s been leaking.

If something was leaking you may not have to go after the clutch.
