91 K5 - Are there any aftermarket parts that should be made

Just remember with the belly pan and skid plates. Don't make them stronger then what they connect to because you want to bend the plate before the truck frame and other parts it would connect to.

that makes perfect sense, I have always thought that anything is only as strong as its weakest link

Got my 91 K5 back after 2 years - and man I need parts - BAD!!!!

I want to see steel, not cast iron (or even AL maybe, if it were thick enough) adpters for the tranny/t-cases. At $100 a piece for the SM465/205 adapter (used!) in some places, one that won't crack the feet off would be ideal. I can't believe us 465/205 owners are the only ones that break them, perhaps the other trannies with "tall" adapters would need them as well.

Never really looked, but I think the 700 equipped trucks mainly got the "wavy" crossmember with a short adapter that is likely less prone to breaking. Perhaps an adapter for the 203/205 that fits the "wavy" crossmember would be easier/stronger.

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

How bout a roof rack that can be mounted to Yakima or Thule cross bars. I know Yakima already has the load warrior, but I want something that is possibly cheaper looks better atop our K5's and can hold more that a 35" tire...also an integrated lit bracket to mount ...oh....say 4 nice sized light

Was that a speed bump? No, just a Rice Rocket

unfortunately any part that would be billet 6061 T6 would require a significant amount of AutoCad input to the mill here, and its a part that I know relitively nothing about, but willing to learn

I myself would much rather trust a big dumb peice of machined steel for this application ( similar to billet steel engine bearing mains found in NASCAR and the like )

Don't forget that if you get the t-case poly mounts made, to ship one or two my way since I was the first one to come up with that idea.

On the Poly t-case mounts are you talking the mounts that go to the adapter between tranny and t-case and attach too the crossmember?

Yep, those are it.

No one makes them for the '87 to '91 models. These are the one-piece mounts, unlike the two-piece mounts on the '84 and older trucks.

I am very new here and have a small lathe at home. Does anybody have a picture of stock mounts online somewhere.
There is a plastic supply place near where I work and they
have polyureathane. Maybe I could also try to turn up something as well.

If you do a truss do a OVER the axle bolt on and weld in style. Some folks can and some can't weld so the non welders having a bolt on option would be nice. Going under the axle makes a rock hanger.
What would be really slick is if you could incorperate a 3 or 4 link suspension into a truss for a coil over or air bag set up that would ramp 1,000 on a 30deg.

I'd like to cast another vote for the front and rear (with tire carrier) bumpers, and also for the skid plate.

I notice that you are in L.A. I'm in Thousand Oaks, and would be happy to play guinea pig for you, if you like!

I don't have a K5, but the Suburban would be the same for a lot of things (like bumpers, hint, hint

I would be happy to test out the Xmembers for the crossover steering for yah :)

Hmm, what about custom tubed doors, which includes hinges and all. Or custom "half" doors.

Great idea's guy's... Especially Boscolingus...
I like Boss's idea also... the tubed door's..
How about a .45 degree Tire carrier that mounts in back of the bed like the Desert pre-runner truck's... The one's I've seen are very expensive.. and alway's thought it was easy to make..

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. www.rocko.rockcrawler.com

If you need AutoCAD done, let me know. Hell, it's all I do all day anyway is play on it and sell it.

On the parts deal. Armor is gonna be the biggest thing there is. Bumpers, crossmembers, skidplates... you get the idea.

The only other thing that might jump out at me would be Air Compressor brackets, or doors.

what i want to see is an instrument panel/bezel like they make for the '72 back trucks that are made to mount aftermarket gauges in the stock location. that way i don't have to experiment with my bezel

If sancho knows what good for him, he best go run and hide. Cause daddy's got a new 45.

Not really and off-road part, but a patch for that rear footwell section that always rots out.

I think all around you need to provide what some of the other venders aren't option wise for the same good. By this I mean higher strength and quality items and items of similar standards that are cheaper. There is a lot of custom stuff I would like to see... like front grill guard that bolts into the frame
