Guys

Have a 1991 K5 that's new to me. Its got a dome and cargo lamp that work just fine. Also a glove box lamp but that's it. Don't see anything else to light up the toe board area. Any thoughts on stealing/installing a set of sockets from another year truck or K5?

Not all that sure if my truck is a low option model, or if those lights weren't a option at all.

Thanks!

Should be a light socket right above the transmission tunnel, on the backside of the lower dash lip.

I suppose they could have gotten rid of it, but with dome lights (not sure if K5's ever came without them, I know crew cabs at one point they were optional) and the way the circuit was wired, it would seem odd that they would have eliminated that socket.

Just like you suggested, over the trans tunnel area. Hope it just needs a bulb.

Thanks!

Oddly on mine, if that bulb isn't working, my domelights fail as well. Never looked at the wiring diagram closely, but I've also removed the door jamb switches, perhaps that plays into it.

Removing the jamb switches in what way. OF course, the dome light won't work w/o them. So if they were removed, you would have to completely by-pass them, and install a fixture that had a manual off/on switch for it to work, as the jamb switches worked off the ground side. Or remove the jamb switch, connect the wires, and still install a manual on/off dome light.

Yeah, trans tunnel light is the only other one AFAIK. Ash tray light.

I'd fix the jamb switches and put in a new dome light with LEDs. Switch the cargo and floor/underdash light with LEDs that ran off a switch as you wouldn't need them often.

Pulled them out and insulated the connectors.

Lights still work, but have to use the headlight switch to turn them on. But if the floor light is out, they don't work.

That bulb is probably the only path to ground (since all interior light wiring is orange and white) in the absence of the door jamb switches.

Ya you'd have to trace it. Shame, floor light you'd think would have a shunt so even if the bulb burns out, power still flows.

Replaced the burned out bulb over the tunnel and all is good. That was easy!

FWIW, my K5 doesn't have any dome lights or door switches. Being a CUCV, it's several trim levels below the base model for its year. I don't know if "normal" Blazers ever considered dome lights optional. I've seen at least one standard-cab pickup without dome light & door switches.
