Guys

My new to me K5 is leaking water into the cab. I get 2 small puddles after heavy rain behind the passenger and drivers front seats. I'm not driving the Blazer so its leaking just sitting there.

I see a few suspect areas and Ill provide photos. Looks like the bottom seal on both sides has shrunk some. Same goes for the gaskets on the cap window. Though I don't have another blazer to compare the gaskets too.

So if I go through the trouble of pulling the top I assume I replace all the gaskets then. Does someone sell a "master" kit and is any one kit any better then the other?

I'm sorry I didn't have much luck with the search feature, so if there is a master thread, feel free to point me in that direction.

Thanks!

Taking the top off and "breaking the seal" should have no effect on whether it leaks or not. Unless you mess up the weatherstripping by doing so. I take my top off in the summer and when it goes back on every winter I've never had a problem with it leaking. It's all about the condition and quality of the weatherstripping. You get what you pay for. Your top to cab is definitely the one leaking though if your getting puddles behind the seats. Replace it when you get time and in the mean time throw a tarp over it if you are concerned about it.

Thanks for the info. How do I go about finding out about the discount?

I see they have the set PART #: 1AWSK00003 and that will seal the cap. What do you think about the window gaskets in my pic?

I doubt the water is leaking into the lower corners. Maybe, but I see it just running off and down the side.

I would be it is leaking up top somewhere and going into the channel.

Kinda hard to explain without the top off but there is an outer and inner seal, and a channel all along the b pillar.

a garden hose and friend are quite helpful.. have a friend, or better 1/2, start low and slow feeding water up the door jamb, than the top seal, moving upward, etc to verify where it's leaking from, as you sit inside watching...

you'll usually verify where the leak is within 10 minutes...

Or you could do what the PO did on mine and completely silicone the entire top onto the body :haha:

Well the wife and I did the leak test today. Lucky for us it was above freezing. Have to tell you guys it brought back memories of working for AMC. The early XJs were bad leakers. Anyways looks like it's the area I suspected where the bottom corner of the cap buts up against the cab. We're expecting rain and snow over the next day or so. I'm going to plug the spot with fire rated caulking compound. If I can get the leak under control I'll change all the seals once it warms up.

between the boats I currently work on (which ALWAYS have leaks! :doah:) and my days back at the collision shop, I've had to find many a leak...

now which is the best weatherstrip kit, I have no clue.. :doah: softseal always had the best IMO.. whether they still have kits for the K5, no idea...

:haha:

me neither... boat's bring the suck... well, if ya fix em for a living anyway.. :haha:
