91 sub wont start

I have a buddy that has a 91 sub with a 5.7 engine, he went home for lunch, ate, then went to start the sub and it would crank but wouldn't start. Seems like its not getting a spark to me. Can a coil go out just like that? Any help will be nice.

Yes a coil can. Also check the fuel pump. You can do that by dumping a little fuel in the tni and see if it starts and then dies.
