The tailgate window in my Suburban hasn't worked since I bought it. I finally decided to check it out today. I've read a bunch of threads on the safety switch and other problems, but I can't find any info on my issue. Purple wire coming up from the frame and connects to a black wire coiled around a piece of hose or something and then goes where? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an 89, so it's similar, but I don't remember seeing wiring like this. It all went to the key switch, safety switch, and motor. Maybe it is (or was) equipped with a defroster on the rear glass. I think some came with it. Mine had no random hoses or tubes either. I'll look at my wiring diagrams tomorrow in case it says something about that wire.

Thanks for the info. I researched a little more after your suggestion and it appears to be for rear window defroster. I'll probably make the switch to a manual window

Anyone know where to get the glass run channels inside the tailgate? Mine are rusty and the felt is in bad shape. LMC only lists the right side for some odd reason. I'm going to switch to manual crank. From info I found, I need the manual regulator and handle. Anything else needed? Thanks

In terms of the channels themselves, no. Are they beyond a good wire brushing or vinegar soaking for the rust? I bought felt from a hobby store and I cut it in strips and glued it in with a decent adhesive. I made sure to prep it well first...it's holding up well after 3 years or so.
