Hello all I'm new to the forum so I have not spent a lot of time searching it yet. I have a Q. about my 91 3/4 ton suburban. It rides really rough on the road and I want to smooth it out some. Here are the details. 5.7, 4L80E, 4x4, 4 inch lift brand unknown blocks in the rear. I just put new rancho 9000's on it and I want to do the rear shackle flip so I can get rid of the blocks. Here is my question, can I put 1/2 springs under it? I use it as a DD and when I do bring it off road it is mostly light trails to the camp site. It will only ever pull a 6x12 trailer with 1 four wheeler and some coolers. So I'm not worried about weight. I just need to know if I use the set of 1/2 ton springs I have that are 4 inch lift in the front and stock in the back with the shackle flip will my 3/4 ride better?

What were the 1/2 ton springs out of?

As long as you don't exceed the capacity of the springs, you will be fine. I got rid of an add a leaf in mine, and it is substantially less jarring of a ride, and even moreso if I compare with a 3/4 ton truck.

The suburban has a LOT more weight over the rear springs than a Blazer or pickup does, which is why it would be important to know what they were out of. That also assumes they aren't already worn out.

I don't have anything to add, other than to say hi from another '91 V2500 owner, and that my dad lives just outside of Cody. I love Wyoming and try to visit him at least once a year.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks Big Blue. Is your burb blue? Mine is smurf blue but I'm in the process of monstalining it dark gray granite. On the outside anyway.

Yup, RPO code 22U, which is "LIGHT SAPPHIRE BLUE METALLIC". According to CompNine, there was only 915 V2500s that came in that color. Is yours that blue?

Mine was originally an Government vehicle (GSA's RPO code GAM).

How'd I miss this?

welcome and post some pics for us 'burbarians...:thumb:

Big Blue. Where would I find this info on mine? I was told that is was a Oregon forest service burb from the guy I bought it from. The lower half of the inside has a spray on bed liner, but there is a spot where the drivers foot rests that the liner has worn off. At that spot I can see a little metallic green but the rest of the vehicle looks like it is painted blue from the factory.

On your glove box door is the listing of all your RPO codes. The VIN should also be listed on that sticker as well. You can then decode each of the RPOs from a online RPO decoder (dozens out there in the interwebs).

However, I have a compnine account. If you want to PM me your VIN and email, I will run a RPO report and email it back. Attached is one I did for a friend of mine a few weeks back, if you wanna see the level of details.

PM Sent.

Report ran, just emailed it to you.

Yup, we have the same blue. And what the previous owner told you said seems to be true, that your V2500 was also sold to the US Gov't.
Nice! Ours practically match!

Enjoy!

I appreciate you running the report. Thanks.

Ok here is a different route. I want to put the shackle flip kit on my burb. Where can I get stock spring height for the rear that ride smother then the stock springs. This thing rides real rough I would like to calm it down a bunch but not lose any of the lift it has already. The rear springs are shot from the 4 inch blocks that have been on it for who knows how long. Also who makes the best riding front springs in 4 inch lift? Thanks in advance for any help.

The stock springs are likely not as much of a problem as the shocks. Shocks control how fast the springs move, springs only control how much weight you can handle and how far they can travel. Buying good shocks will do more for the quality of ride than springs.
