I picked up a full size blazer with IFS, but front short shafts are disconnected. Does anyone know if the front shaft normally would turn all the time when in 2WD?

Also, I want to do a SAS, nothing huge, just a 10 bolt, but can I do it with auto locking hubs? I know most would go manual, but I have driven with auto locking hubs for so long, I'd prefer to just keep it that way.

On an IFS rig the front shafts aren't able to disconnect from the front wheels... at least in a stock GM fullsize.

They are set up the same way that most front wheel drive cars are, where the front axle is splined to the wheel hub, therefore, the front shafts, front diff, and front driveshaft all turn while the vehicle is in motion, regardless if the transfercase is in 4wd or 2wd.

As for the SAS, you can use whichever outer hub would suit your needs. There are advantages and disadvantages to all...

and you HAVE to have atleast a gutted stub shaft bolted in the wheel bearing unit or they can seperate and a wheel fall off . there designed to be sandwiched together with the stub shaft and nut on the stub shaft .

these kits do require min lift spring size to cler the diff to the engine / crossmember area . some guys have gone lower and trimmed and boxed the area to clear . crossover steering is also required . ford front axle on your current 4x4 and swap to gm outer guts for matching 6 lug . or swap t-case stuff for pass side drop and reg gm axle and redo exhaust and floor shifter .

Yes, normally the front shafts and front driveshaft will spin while in 2wd. And as mentioned above, get a stub into those wheel bearings as they need the stub to keep the wheel bearing pre-loaded properly.
