Hey!

has anyone installed a 92+ Rear view mirror on a 91 and below Blazer/burban?
I picked one up from the Junk yard for 5$ and would love to install it. It has 3 wires, so i can't imagine it being too hard. thanks in advance for the help!

I have one in mine and it's great! Love it!

We get use to some basic thing on newer vehicles and take it for granted. Nice addition for you.

I bought mine as a kit several years ago so I didn't have to piecemeal it too much. Did you pick up a temp sensor for the exterior by chance? I bet you could find one somewhere.

I think your main thing to make it work is finding a connector to fit the back. From there, the wiring is pretty easy. I would have to check mine out to figure out which pins were the positive, negative, and temp sensors.

Here is mine.

Well, the pigtail only has 3 wires. Pink black and green.(1,2,3,) everything else is empty, from some of the research i did find, pink is + black is - and green is the sensor return or not used.. I am wondering if i can tap in to the dome light power to power it? I did not pull the temp sensor, not thinking it even had a temperature on it, added bonus! i will just need to go back and get it. I did this on my 99 avenger, pulling the Mirror form A Sebring Xji and it worked great, but the roof power was always hot. so it gave a possible battery drain.

I just ran the wires from the mirror to the molding, across the driver's side (under headliner), down the driver's side pillar and then into the Ignition switch power from fuse block. The sensor has two wires so I would suspect that one side ties to the ground line somewhere and then the green up to the mirror.

It's great to have. If you find the sensor, get the connector too. Mine have a waterproof type plug so that will make the connection last longer in the elements.....

You can tap into the dome light wiring, the hot side, the grounded wire is grounded through the door pins, so those won't be much use to you.

It's easy to make a chassis ground up there, but the dome light wiring is hot all the time, so your mirror would run all the time.

That was my concern Blue85, same issue with my Avenger, i guess I am just going to have to learn to run a wire to the Fuse box.....Any tips?

installed a compass/temp on in my Burb.

LOVE having the temp. Its also auto dimming, but if you want it to dim properly, you need to run a wire from the backup light feed.

If not, you need to ground that wire out (or apply 12v? i forget) to get it to dim properly.

Search Gentex mirrors on google, and you'll find a wealth of wiring info. You can order the mirror pigtail on ebay, as well as a harness and temp sensor if you are going that route. I ordered my whole setup off ebay (used mirror) for a reasonable $ value.

Up there in the list of favorite mods.

Good luck!

DHComp, I call it the poor man's navigation system Hahah! This is the gntx-140 model I think it was pulled from a 95+ Tahoe, and only paid 5$ for it at the Pic-a-Part. I pulled the pigtail that came with it. and again it only had the 3 wires on that. i did forget to get the temp sensor, i can go back,it is probably still there. It does not look modified, it is factory.I will hopefully have some time to play with it this weekend, I need to take down the replacement head liner to see if the Mounting bracket for a roof console is installed. so kill, two birds with one stone.

From some of the research I did find, pink is+ black is- and green is the sensor or not used.

3wire would make me think its just autodimming, no temp.

What buttons are on it? Don't have time to look up the model right now, but green is often backup wire...which would turn off autodimming.

Do your research, and either ground or power this wire to get it to autodim on its own. Having the autodim turn off in reverse really isn't necessary....i'm never in reverse long enough for it to make a difference and actually lighten up.

Well, this one has a light sensor on both mirror side and windshield facing , also it has a Rectangle display box as opposed to square. I believe the Compass is attached to the arm with its own housing and wires, and this has a slider as opposed to a button
from l-R (off < M > c/m) this selector is also lit with white LEDs. If needed I can try to upload some pics!

Google says this model (Gentex-140) is Auto dimming with Compass
