92 k3500 fuel pump control module????

What the heck is it supposed to do? I have a bad one (smoked) that wouldnt let the engine shut off when key was turned off.

Fuel pump and engine run without it, and looking at a wiring diagram I dont get what it is supposed to do. It is the part labeled hot fuel module.

Circulates fuel for about 20 seconds when the motor is off , supposed to solve hot start problems.

I thought they were hokey myself, but from what I've seen of TBI aluminum intakes the throttle body does get incredibly hot, and under some instances I can see the heat causing issues.
