I was surfing online a few days ago and run across a 93 4x4 Blazer with a locked up motor that I thought was priced right. Its got over 200,000 miles on it, but its a one owner and was well taken care of. I called and the guy was at his house so I took 20 minutes off and went to take a look. I was more intersted in the body/interior than the motor since I have a motor sitting here for it and after looking it over I ended up buying it. When I was leaving I asked the guy about the motor and he said it just locked up. No overheating, knocks, rattles or any warning what so ever. The guy is a soldier and really strait forward so, I have no reason to doubt what he told me since I had allready bought it and he knew I planned to just put another motor in it anyway.
Anyway after I got back to work I was talking to a bud and he said he had the same problem with the 5.7 in his 94 K1500. Turned out the timing chain broke and seized the motor up. Now for my questions.
1. Is there anyway to check it without pulling the front of the motor down?
2. Should I just pull it out and put in the motor I have out already thats got just a tad over 100,000 miles on it?
3. If I do end up having to pull the motor how do I get the torque converter bolts out or should I just pull it with the converter still attached? Ive had to do this before and really hate the thought of it.
4. Any problems with pulling the truck a mile or so without taking out the driveshaft? Ive done this on older trucks, but just down know about this one.
I guess my game plan right now is to pull it to the shop, tear down the front of the motor to check the chain and either replace the gears/chain or pull the motor and converter togather since Ill have just gained a bunch of room up front since Ive tore it down to the timming chain. I guess Im hoping its just a chain so I can keep the motor I have for my up and comming 85 project. So what do you guys think???

In this case he will need to pull the engine leaving the convertor attached and then once the engine is removed he can remove the convertor.
