I found 3 of these today for cheap, and would like to get at least one for my 87 K5 if not all 3. So can someone give me a break down of what all tools will need besides steering wheel puller and normal hand tools? What all should I grab with it never done newer steering wheel swap but have taken K5's off few times.

I don't recall there being any significant difference from the stock steering wheel setups, horn cap is just pulled off, maybe torx for horn piece, socket for the nut, steering wheel puller, that's all I remember needing. Luckily it's been years since I've had to dig into mine. :)

Reminds me I should be looking for these too. I assume like all other wheels, over time they will start to come apart, spares wouldn't be bad to have.

The 88-94 wheel is actually really nice. It SHOULD go on right in place of a square body wheel. As said its just a 21 or 22mm socket, hooked pick and crappy flathead to take off the stupid clip that can be discarded, and a steering wheel puller.

Wheel puller and lock plate depressing tool. So you can get teh clip out. More than worth the $15 it costs.

The horn wire is specific to that wheel, so you need to grab it.

Isn't the lock plate below the wheel? Not to be an ass, I just don't recall having to deal with that to get the wheel itself off.

No big deal. I've literally swapped about a dozen of these wheels.

I've heard you guys mention these wheels before. What makes them so special? Just the look?

Not quite as big as the earlier wheels, thicker, aesthetics.

I was very pleased with the feel of the diameter and fatter hoop. I wish that I could find one built like these, but styled like a '72!

These things have such lack of feel in the steering already, I can't imagine anyone thinks they need more leverage at the steering wheel to turn the tires lol.

Perhaps the large diameter wheels were due to the fact that for a long time, you could still get non-power steering trucks. Big wheel probably helped with that.

Rebuild your steering column and you will get the feel back into your trucks steering you want there. I swore I needed a steering box and maybe still do to some extent but my trucks steering feels so much better after rebuilding column.

What size are they? The stock wheel on my '72 was way too big, but this aftermarket one I have now feels too small. Might have to look for one myself...
