94 8500&up gvw tbi

I was wondering if someone could please explain How the E.G.R works on a 94 454 1 ton.I have looked at a low gvw 350 it it has the standard style diaphram.Mine however looks like an electric motor??If anyone could please explain this that would be great(pics)?
