Put a set of headers on last week and today no start. It doesnt turn over,no clicking and the lights dont dim when cranking. Battery is good and cleaned the ground {it looked okay}. Tried tapping starter and starting in neutral for no go. I am thinking the starter succumbed to heat. Any ideas? thanks Scott:dunno:

Daughters birthday today, will have to do tomorrow. I was really hoping its something I didnt look/know about!:doah:That right you have one of these trucks too, thanks Paul.

eh, it is a bit unusual that it's not doing anything... that does tend to be a connection issue.. so take a peak/wiggle some wires prior if the removal is b*tchy with the headers.. maybe even a quick jumper of it in place if it's a real pain to pull..

stock rig, 2 minute removal and bench test is a quick diagnosis..

A little unlikely its the starter its self. Even with a bad starter, the solenoid should click.
Starter might still be bad, but the solenoid should click regardless.

If you can reach it, and its easier than pulling the starter, check for +12 at the purple wire on the solenoid when the key is in start.

Plus, when checking in park and neutral, remember to hold the key in start while wiggling the gearshift lever.

I would check the main power wire going from the starter to the battery. I have dropped a couple starters before to swap out only to find the wire had corroded and broke off.

is it full size? do you think heat was the issue? might wanna look at gear reductions, or at least a heat shield...

Gear reduction, I think it was just its time. There seems to be plenty of space between everything because they are shorties. I guess its wait and see.:doah:

My mothers '94 pick-up has a similar thing going on from time to time, not that it won't start, but when you hit the key to the start position, it won't do anything for a split second, but holding it in that position, then it'll just start up like nothing was wrong.

Not sure what could be the deal with that, checked connections on everything, cleaned them, all tight, I even had the switch under the dash swapped out.

Not causing any real problems at the moment though. weird stuff.
