Since the S10 forum is kinda slow I thought I'd post this up here. So my 95 2.2L S10 has had an overwhelming gas smell for the past few months and I finally got tired of it. I traced the EVAP system out to find that 1/2 of it is missing. The vent line from the tank to charcole canister is intact, then it has a vac sourse line running up towards the engine, but the line just ends right at the trans. On the engine I found the manifold vac line for it cut and plugged with a bolt.
So doing a little research, I found that I need a vac purge valve that I hook to the manifold vac and then run to the terminated line by the trans leading back to canister. The purge valve also has a smaller line that ties into the HVAC vac line.
So I bought the purge valve and hooked it up according to the vac line diagram on the core support as I described it above. My HVAC controls work a lot better than used to, only I still have a slight gasoline smell and for this first tank of gas, my truck has been sucking it down! Based on where the gas gauge is and my odometer, i should have gone over 100 miles more for where the level is.
Sorry for the long post, but I am not sure what is happening... Why has my milage taken a dive, and why do I still smell gas fumes?
