Had to put some new brakes on my old S10 Blazer and saw that the pass side was gone and needed replacing while the driver's side was still in very good shape. SO since this is my little beater truck I just changed out the pass side. Well I drove to the autoparts store after that and back to my house and noticed when I got home the smell of burning brakes and some smoke coming from the pass side wheel. No very much but any is more than you wanna see:eek1:. So I figured the caliper must be locking up since it burned up the pass side pads faster than the drivers side, but I never felt any pulling or anything on the steering wheel. Replaced the caliper, bled the brakes and drove it around. Still drives great, not pulling, brakes have good feel. So I drove it about 7-8 miles testing it out. Got back home and guess what: The pass side front brake is smoking even more now:eek1:. I'm out of ideas. What could it be now? Am I missing something?

Prolly need new slider bushings and a bit of grease on the slider pins. Hell, prolly good idea to change the pins too, as they may be corroded and/or stepped.

With no pads in place the caliper should slide easily back and forth on the sliders.

The other possibility is a bad brakline on that side causing residual pressure to hold.

Jack that corner up and see how hard it is to turn the tire, youll be able to tell if its draggin bad then. Might be a warped rotor or a junk caliper.

well, when I had the old caliper on it it was hard to spin the tire, so that was one of the reasons I changed calipers. When I put this new caliper on it spun well and a lot better than the old caliper. I'm gonna run to the autoparts store and get some new caliper bolts cuz these are probably the ones that have been in there since 96 and have 385k on them:D. I'll pick up some grease too and see if that'll relieve the problem

No luck:mad:, the damn things still grabbing and smoking. Now I can feel it pulling when going down the road. I replaced the caliper bolts, checked the rubber grommets, and everythings in good shape and new. I've replaced everything now on that side from the brake line down. I'm clueless:confused:. The brake lines appear to be in good shape and they're not kinked. Anybody had a similar problem?

before reading your last post. i was gonna say you have a bad flex brake line. i seen them rot away from the inside and it hold pressure oin the brakes.

now that i think of it. maybe there an issue on the other side or even the back brakes are not working. and the pass side is doin all the work.

a buddy of mine has a lifted s10. he said he had issues with the front brakes goin real quick on him. i asked him if he ever looked at the backs. and said no. both wheel cylinders were frozen. swaped them out and he was good to go

well, I replaced the brake line. That didn't fix it. I checked the back brakes my jacking up the back end and they're working. Called my buddy who used to work for a dealership and told me there was a recall on them for that problem. Told me to take a file and grind down the bracket the calipers mount in, did that, didn't fix it. EVerythings lubed up, the steel bushings, the bolts, etc... I can't think of anything else. The only thing that it seems to me now, that it can be is the caliper. I'm thinking that I got a defective one from the autoparts. That's the only thing I can think of that it can be. Anbody else got any ideas. This things really starting to piss me off now. Especially since I just got my B52s in from Kert yesterday and this is preventing me from mounting them cuz I gotta fix it first so I can drive to work:D

AH HA!! Caliper was the problem! Took the caliper back and put another one on and that did the trick. Thanks for the help

yeah I was pretty well annoyed with the damn thing. Truthfully I never would have thought the new (remanufactured) caliper I bought was the problem. But after I replace everything else I determined it was the only thing it could be. I guess that's what happens sometimes when you buy remanufactured stuff

same here. i have changed alot of calipers and never seen one go bad. ill have to remeber that if i ever come across the same problem at the shop
