Hi I'm looking around my local junk yards for a auto tranny for my 98 1 ton 4wd dually super cab trk with the 7.4.The guys at the yards are telling me the transmissions are different depending on the motor 7.4 OR 5.7 even thogh its the "same" trk. They don't know what the difference is,BUT they say there is one.So I wanted to ask folks here.Whats the difference in transmissions between the 1 ton 4wd trks with the 7.4 motor and the 5.7 motor THANKS

around then thay changed rear cooler line position. nolonger side by side. easy fix tho if you cut and strechs the side by side lines to the front and back.

also around 98-99 thay started the bolt on bell housings.

You will have the 4l80e,

as mentioned the cooler lines on the 97 and down version have the two lines right by one another, the newer ones like what you have have them spaced apart. Also there are a few variations on the main plug near the lever. You can just remove your assembly and transfer it over however if the new trans has a different plug variation.

It will say plain as day on the trans 4l80e hydro-matic on the passenger side of the trans.

So even if the junk yard donor truck has a 350 and MY trk has the 454 they are interchangeable other than what differences that were mentioned above ???
