TreeFarm submitted a new Build:

98 k2500. SAS'd and bobbed.

98 k2500 extended cab long bed that is way too long and the front suspension is entirely too independent.

Well the build has officially started. The back story. I picked this thing up a few weeks ago for stupid cheap. The guy was just over it. He used it to pull his trailer for a few years and killed the clutch. You could let the clutch out with the E brake on and it would just sit there and slip. The best part was he made absolutely no effort to actually advertise the truck. He didn't wash it or even take the garbage out of it. The ad just said "runs, needs clutch, call me" No mention of the features or anything. So needless to say it sat online for months before I decided to go look at it. I was presently surprised to find a truck with power everything, a dash that wasnt torn up or cracked, and had damn near no rust.

It ran great but needed little things. The first was a deep cleaning and door pins. The passenger door wouldn't even shut. I tossed in a used clutch I had on the shelf and started fixing the little things. New ignition switch. New inner door handle, new tailgate latch. Removed some sketchy wires for the trailer brake. I had GM cut me an original key since the one I got was worn out and hardly working. It seems like a good truck so far.

So the plan for it is to build a new daily driver. A second attempt at building something capable, reliable, and comfortable. The last one hit the first two perfectly but the fell a little short on comfort with all the wind noise on the freeway.

I will reuse as much stuff from my last build as possible

ORD SAS brackets.
Truffcounty EZ ride 3" front springs
Front GM kingpin 60, 4.56 gears, spartan locker, Hardcore hubs, crossover, all that jaz
Nv4500 trans
Np205 transfer case
14Bolt rear, 4.56 gears and a Detroit, maybe I'll finally put disks on.
ORD shackle flip brackets, custom front hangers
Move rear axle forward 24-26" to get the wheel base down to roughly 131"
Bob bed down to 5'.
Blazer 31 gallon gas tank behind rear axle.
5.3L LM7 Vortec, LS6 cam and springs. Ditch the black box ECM from the 98 and pin the LS computer to run all the truck stuff.
Adapt the A/C to my sanden compressor
Front bumper with my 12K winch
Sliders
Rear bumper of some sort
Ditch the tow mirrors for some more compact electric ones.

Last night someone came and bought the 7.4L. He will be putting it in a 99 quigly converted panel van with a dana 60 up front. Between that and selling my dakota digital dash on here I will have plenty to order my basic parts. I already have my shackle flip and brackets for my rear suspension. I need to order my SAS brackets and transfer case adapter next week.

Has anyone ever used the northwest fab fig 8 to round adapter before? I am having no luck trying to find a 32 spline round or fig 8 pattern NP205 around here.

I was thinking I had that on my 77 but mine is for the NP203. I’ll have to look at what I have for sure but I think I have the advanced adapters one sitting on the shelf at home. If it’s the right stuff for yours I’d make you a killer deal on it if you’re interested?

If we are thinking about the same AA stuff, its the nv4500 to 205 adapter that requres cutting the output shaft on the 4500 and a large bore 32 spline 205. I dont really want to cut my output since it will limit me changing things down the road. Also I dont have a large bore 32 spline 205. Cant find one to save my life for a acceptable price. So I would have to bore out my current case and buy a 32 spline input and bearing. or get the conversion bearing and make a 5mm spacer.

Engine bay got pressure washed. It cleaned up pretty well

May be easier to find a passenger drop 241. Even if it’s a 27 spline you could swap it to a 32 spline. Then do something with a cable shifter and use the stock shifter

I'd keep the hunt on for a round pattern case 205 or 241 or use the adapter. I've helped Larry install the aa nv4500 adapter by cutting the shaft. It's reversible, but expensive to get the stock shaft to go back.

Ive been looking for a local passenger drop 241 as well. If I have one come up cheap enough I would jump on it but I think I would still end up swapping it to a 205 later on so why do it twice

Yeah the AA adapter was never an option for me

Snagged this thing today. On a whim I posted another wanted ad online and got a reply. Paid $400. A little more than I probably could have gotten one for but I was in a hurry and it was easily justified since adapting my current case would cost about $450. Only two downsides to this case, Its synchronized and it doesn't have a VSS

I have a few questions. This case is a synchronized one so I can’t do front only. Can I just take the front output parts from my other case and slap it in this one or are the cases different?

Also. I want to clock it up. I have two options of mounting it, Put in a short input($140) and bolt it to the back of the trans. This would make using a clocking ring no problem at all. The second option is using advanced adapters spacer($100) and keeping the long input shaft. Would I have a problem stacking a clocking ring and the AA spacer? Other than shift rail and idler shaft clearance on the spacer.

Yes you swap the entire front assembly to convert to non synchro front output.

Hell I didn’t know they had round pattern Syncro 205’s

I wonder how many K30s were ordered with auto hubs on their Dana 60s. Seems like an uncommon option. with it requiring a special 205 I wonder why gm offered it.

Like @obijuank5 said, the entire assembly - to include the shift fork, collar, etc. just to say it out loud.

The syncro'd set up was only available for about 3 years iirc, like 82-85 I think.

Btw, the rear cover too as the syncro style rear bearing is smaller.

My 83 truck has a Syncro but it has selectable hubs up front. Idk if someone changed things around or if that was factory.
