ok guys , got one for ya!! a buddy of minine brought his 98 burb over last night....said in the mornings it will crank over good but will not start ....untill he hooks jumper cables to it ......then it will start and run......but after about 45 mins to an hour of driving it will start cutting out and eventually die on him!!!he can let it sit for about 10 mins and it will start and run for another 8-10 miles befoere doing the same thing!!! i just went out to try and start it this morning and it turns over great all the power acc. work and all of the lights on the dash come on when the key is switched on........although i seem to recall seeing all the icons on the dash except the service engine soon light!!! took the cap off of the fuel rail and got just a tiny little spurt when i depressed the valve............so , should i be looking at a fuel pump, ignition module , clogged fuel filter or what direction should i go..it has 200,000 miles on it, thanks

That truck needs fuel pressure of 50 psi to start. If you don't have a guage borrow one. Pull the fuel filter and see if it restricted.

Maybe I am just over reacting since I just finished the power steering pump and am still mad!!

I have had nothing but trouble with mine since I bought it.

No more heated seats

Im on my 2nd Fuel Pump

2nd Tranny

Fuel Pressure Regulator (Didn't have a preasure gauge at the time and went with the cheapest route but not the easiest. Had to take the upper intake manifold off)

Rear Heater Core(the ones I got didn't fit exactly right)

Radiator (Leaked where the plastic clamps on unrepairable)

Just had to replace the power steering pump, which I might say was a major PITA!

How many Trannies has your buddy gone through with 200k on it?

Sorry for the rant/hijack

sounds that way 2 me also

Sounds like a bad battery to me, easy to check at any auto parts store if you don't have a tester

thats what i was thinking, along w/bad alternator....battery sits it gains power..runs a bit & dies...sits then starts sounds like battery using everything it has to turn over, leaving low power to fuel pump & ignition, but just enuff to start...in 10 min truck has sucked battery dead b/c alternator not charging so it dies....sits there lets the bat build a little charge and same thing happens again...i'd check battery & alternater 1st thing...oh and the connections to make sure they're not corroded all to heck!

He posted somewhere else and we got it figured out, plugs had double the gap and was not sprking enough to cover the gap.
It runs good now.
:D

thanks for all the help guys , hope i got it figured out !!he just bought it last year so i dont know what he has replaced ..............looking at the old plugs apparently nothing.....lol!! put new plugs in , checked the alt and the battery cables ....alt. is charging at 13.79 volts , no corrosion or bad cable connections battery does look fairly new , so maybe he did replace that!! drove it 50 plus miles yesterday evening with no problems..........let it sit over night and just walked outside and it took three turns of the key and then fired right up............i would imagine having 212,000 miles on it the compression may be a little low!! i'm hoping the plugs were the main problem............i will keep messing with it today....but one more question could the hard start problem i was having be due to the fuel pressure in the lines leaking down ???if so what would cause that and where should i start looking if this problem reappears???, thanks
