He's saying that because he figures that if he doesn't actually say the words, just type them, it isn't lying..What's a double and who the heck needs one? 12 years on the stock 700r4 and a 241.
But I baby my truck. I have never beat on it.

We know you're a better driver than us, don't rub it in.What's a double and who the heck needs one? 12 years on the stock 700r4 and a 241.

Keep in mind, most 4500s out there need 5th gear synchro work. At that point it gets expensive. He has a point! Most of the time I’m like @ktmoutfront about the doubler. It’s an extra play pretty in the truck, and usually not necessary to have. BUT, there are those occasional times. I’m only concidering it at this point because of the potential change in transmission. Driveshafts built right are expensive. And since 2016 BB, I run a complete spare set. I will always continue to do so.
Ultimately, I’ve got to decide on auto or stick. Y’all have convinced me that a property buit 4l60 will get it done, but there is nothing like the reliability on a 4500. It’s a never ending debate. But I think if I go with a trans builder that I’m confident in, the 4l60 again is the right path. Hold off on the doubler until later in the build.
And continue to teach me Obi Wan. Wasn’t there an early series of 4500’s that had a lower first gear? A gear that resembled low in the SM465s?Keep in mind, most 4500s out there need 5th gear synchro work. At that point it gets expensive.
Shop before you buy

Yup. The engine buzzes a bit above 70 mph, but having low gears and smaller tires does wonders on the trail. We know you're a better driver than us, don't rub it in.
Having 4.56 gears and short tires does do wonders for keeping that RPM up at speed tho
I think I've said it before. But a th 350 or th 400 with a 203/205 is a very similar liw range as a 4l60/700 with a 241.
That being said at some point, you will absolutely realize the desire for some sort if lower reduction. You may not need said reduction but you will want it.
That holds true for most. But I will say have a pliable suspension such as Wade's decreases that desire
My dad's experience tells me that your shop is already too small.30’x40’ with 12’ walls to begin. Got plans and have it laid out for another 20’x30’ addition down the road. I am so ready to get this built!!
Likewise, but then I run small tires so there is that...I am proud of my lack of doubler.
Thats always the answer. My dad's experience tells me that your shop is already too small.
