I want to convert my 82 454 over to a serpentine belt setup. Found the complete setup off a 99 suburban with a 454 I can obtain for a good deal. Will there be any issues I will run into swapping it onto my 82 engine? I think I read somewhere that I will need to change the water pump too since it spins a different direction on a serp setup? Thanks.

I put a 94 setup on my 71 block, 99 is pretty new but I don't think you'll have a problem as long as you get the reverse rotation water pump, I am not 100% sure though. Edelbrock makes a nice aluminum reverse WP. If you are running an engine driven fan you'll need the clutch fan assembly as well since it spins backwards. I just run electric.

Pretty sure it bolts up. in addition to the reverse rot w/p I think the only other small issue is alternator plug. On the plus side you can most likely bolt in a 140 amp with no mods.

Cool deal. I already run electric fans so that isn't an issue and a new alternator plug isn't a big deal, just as long as the bolting patterns are ok and all.

Also, eliminating the A/C compressor shouldn't be a issue would it? Just a shorter belt basically?

Matt, I had some issues, but I used the KWIK performance kit and a small block setup from GM performance parts on mine. I really like it, but the tensioner pulley stretched the belt over an inch from the installation length....didn't think it was possible but it did. We put a shorter belt on in Moab, and it stretched too, but I still have clearance enough between my Windstar fan motor and the tensioner pulley. Dorman makes a bolt in A/C pulley to replace the A/C unit if you want to remove it.

Yeah you can't just eliminate the AC compressor because the belt won't fit then. You can replace it with an idler pulley, or a york...

Right on, thanks guys. Picking up everything I need off the 99 burban for $150 so seems like a good deal
