99 6.0 Silverado....common brake line blowout

One other thing that I saw quite abit of in the dealer I used to work at was the small bearing the the tc shifter rides on would fail and then take out the encoder motor.

got the new motor on the t/c today, hooked up the driveshaft, and went for a test spin....hit the 2wd button and it went in....cool, but then this happened:

blew the front (by the t/c) to rear brakeline...dam I hate salt!

Seems like you have discovered the cause to your problem. I had a similar issue on my Yukon, just like you described, and it turned out to be the front u-joints.:doah:

u joints on the driveshaft or the axleshaft CV's?
I did have to replace one ujoint on the front driveshaft, I think that is where the vibes might have been coming from.

Well the cv shafts needed changing at the same time (they were creaking and popping) but the vibe was still there after I changed them and it was the u-joints on the front driveshaft.

I've been lucky that nothing else has happened with the front end, especially as it was basically in auto 4wd all winter. That's 6 months, almost, of being in and out several times a day, in temps down to -51 and near constant below zero weather. The oil cooler lines didn't fare so well this winter, now they're leaking:doah:

I think the cooler lines are pretty common leakers...mine leaves a few drops when it sits for an hour or more.

Yeah the guys at the shop say they just bypass/remove them on rigs up here, most of the year the oil doesn't need to be cooled. But I'm heading south again so I'm going to replace them here soon, I don't like leaking fluids.

my heat/air only blows to the floor, no other options on the dial work...does this sound like an air blend door control (or whatever they call them now?)

could be the dash control... seen this multiple times. what year truck? Post a pic. I have a 2000 2500 I'm parting. actually, call or text me Dave 413-522-6764

Its my 99 Silverado 2500 Geoff.... I'll give you a shout in the next 24 hrs... If I can remember:doah:...I'm @ work now.

Would a 2002 2500HD hood fit my 99 2500???

good to know.... thanks for the info!

The hoods are not the same from 99-06, the hoods are the same from mid 99-02, 03-04 are different and 05-07 classic are the same with a bulge up front.

(A little food for thought below)

... 99-02 1500 have a flat hood, 2500-3500 have the bulge in the front of the hood and the trucks have a taller grill center and a tall bumper cap.

... 03-04 trucks have a grille with a center that goes from headlight to headlight and the 1500-3500 are the same hoods, the bumper cap is different. This is when the so called cat eye style started.

...05-07 classic trucks the front of the hood has a bulge higher than the previous style, the grille is also is 3 pieces instead of one.

Take a look at my build in the garage, its an 03. You will see the style change..

My 99 2500 is not a designated "HD" model as those didn't start until 01 model year
It pretty much looks like a 1500HD
So being the "HD" model 2500 had a taller grille I assume it would not fit my LD 2500?

Im sure it will, it's proportioned different so the center chrome is taller. Still the same size over all tho. The fenders for them all 1500-3500 99-02 are the same.
