Ok I am putting a fuel pump in a 99 four door tahoe. I can't seem to get the tank out it either hits the crossmember or the rear axle. I am thinking of removeing the cross member but before i do is there any tricks ? Thanks Denny.

I work as an auto tech and my online info states that you simply support the tank disconnect the fill and vent tubes remove the straps and shield. Slide the tank back and out. Like I said this is what my information tells me which is the same stuff I use every day.

I own the same truck. Subscribed for further info...........
X2. My pump has gone bad, and am now waiting for it to completely crap out before replacement. I put it on the lab-o-scope the other day, and it has a big flat spot in it, and it's drawing 10 amps, normally it's supposed to draw 5 amps. Can't do much for it right now, as the money to replace it with is getting more and more scarce.

If you are replacing the whole unit as in including the sender ect, just cut the plastic and dont waste your time trying to disconnect the fuel lines. You can disconnect whats left of the lines after the tank is dropped. The tank will come out of there, Ive done it on those several times.

Maybe try supporting the truck by the frame rather than the axle, which will allow the axle to fall further out of the way.

I've replaced the fuel pump in my dad's '99 Suburban with no problem :dunno:

I will try draining the tank tomorrow then try again. It seems like it should drop out but right now i can't get it down far enough to dissconnet the lines at the pump. I have dropped plenty of tanks but this one just is stubberin i guess. Thanks Guys Denny i will keep you posted

Ya i had it supported by the bumper with a bumper jack at one end and stands at the other. So the axle was at full droop. The only way i change them when i do side jobs is change the whole thing pump sock houeing everything. Thanks Denny
