The front drive shaft should not spin in 2wd right?
Isn't that what the thermo acctuator thing on the front diff
is for? I did as search but came up short so thanks in advance
for the help!

I did some more searching and found the posi-lock.
But I can't figure out if it will work on a 99 they say up to 98.
In all the searcing I did every one says the will not engage not
disengage if they are messed up. So do you think my problem
could be soething else?

I'm fairly sure the driveshaft will still spin even when in 2WD just not under power. The 4WD actuator is what connects the diff when the t-case is in 4WD and then power is fed to the driveshaft.

I put it up on the lift earlier and found that the t-case is not diengaging
from the rear shaft. It shifts from 2hi to 4hi and 4lo and even neutral. When the t-case is in neutral and all four wheels are off the groung both drive shafts still spin. Id the back wheels are on the ground I can't spin the front shaft. Its an auto trac if that means anything.

I really need some help whith this if anyone can help. My wife needs to drive this truck for the next couple of weeks. I don't know if it is the encoder motor on the t-case or some thing is wore out in the t-case?
(it has over 200,000 miles on it) Seems like if it was the encoder it
wouldn't shift through 2hi-4hi-4lo-N PLEASE HELP!!!!

does the '04 have auto trac?

why do you call your trucks cars? maybe that's your problem.

If it says 2hi on the dash , and it didn't shift the case , just unbolt the shifter form the side of the case , and turn it with pliers until it is in 2hi , and bolt the shifter back on . UNTIL you can fix it for real .

shifter=electric motor box on side of case . I got an Autotrac Sub myself , 1999 :pimp: I own too many titled things .

As for front driveshaft , it could spin sometimes I suppose , although it shouldn't because the front is open , but the disconnect only does one side of the diff , one side is always attached to ground turning your spiders

This is why the driveshaft should still spin, only from drag of the spider gears making it spin.

new body style chevy and gmc trucks starting 99 had the auto-trac transfer case with auto 4wd. the driveshaft spins all the time. your 99 suburban is the older body style. not sure if they are the same t-case, but i actually owned one of these trucks for 8 years.

here's an old thread i found while searching. just read the first page. http://www.countrybynet.com/forums/...2748/page/0/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1

The drive shaft is not spinning from spider gear drag. I put it on my lift and the front drive shaft spins with the rear drive shaft. It must be the electronic shifter on the side of the t-case?? Allthough it shifts to all the other gears but 2hi??? I just put a new switch in the dash last month, but I guess that could have been bad also? Thanks for all the input, if anyone has anymore advise it is very appreciated.
