Several cages for 1st Gens seem to have this trait in common, why are the rear bars located so far away from the end of the bed? Is this to allow for the contour of the rear hatch? What am I missing?

I guess the main reason for keeping them a little forward is the tail pan. If you ever want to mount the cage to the frame with some tube, it would be almost impossible if it's coming through the tail pan.

It is back pretty much as far as it can be to tie into the frame on mine and still be removable out the back. :pimp:

Looks like they were trying to have a large square base plate but keep the tube in the center of it.

It is tucked into the corner fairly well.

Had the same thing with the rear cage in the Wife's truck last weekend.

IIRC I made 4x4 plates for just about everything except the footwell plates. And yes, everything was welded to the center of the plates. It should give me a little more room for when I take the Ryoken class of fiberglass side panel fabrication. :D

Wow very nice cage! Love the progress!

Thanks ES. Not much progress lately. Cut down the engine cage tubes so the sit nice and even on their landing pads is about it. Couple more weeks and I'll be back at it. :waytogo:

Pretty boring bump, but one more thing closer to getting the front finished. :waytogo:

Found a couple hours this last weekend. Ended up getting the tops of the gusset boxes closer. When I take everything back apart I'll fine tune the edges and such. These things just took so long due to being curved along with the frame.

The blue "X" is where I'm going to drill through and install a welded nut on the inside of the box. Three bolts should hold the top plate all together. One in the frame where a hole was existing, one through the top and one through the back.

I did like how the engine cage tubes came down pretty much even on the top of the boxes. :pimp:

Hopefully this weekend, I'll really finish up everything and weld it up. That's the winch mount, gussets, shocks and whatnot.. It would be nice to get the fenders and core back on so I can get my bumper cut down some more and in final position with the rest of the front clip. I'll still need to do the fairlead and stuff, but I want the bumper in it's final position first.

If all goes according to plan, I want to fire the engine back up for no other reason than to rev the thing up.:woot: Been awhile since I heard it and I think it's time for my neighbors to hear it again. :haha:

I think that ekajkrats (Jacob) is going to stop by this Sunday, too. Be cool to meet another CK5'er and another 1st Gen guy. As everyone knows, the 1st gen guys are by far the coolest cats around. :deal: :D

Couple of pics to go with the drivel..

Damn looks great. I'm tossing around idea on a cage on mine...I think it's a must with my two little girls riding in the back....Ah yes I loved pissing off my neighbors when I was building the Camaro 461 with only headers on got some attention! I think it would be kick ass to get together with some first gen guys around the site. I bought a F350 down in Oroville two years ago...it's not too far from me. Get you, Ash, Nick, myself, SBD and -G and whoever else together. -G would have a small commute though...

that engine cage came out bada$$....

Thanks Paul. :waytogo:

There will be a couple more tubes on the cage. I want to land some directly over the shock mount making a "v" in that area. One behind everything heading back towards the firewall and "maybe" one running over the top edge of the firewall from side to side with a couple of small tube gussets on that one.

I don't want to add too much, but just enough, type of thing. My guess is I'll cut up a bunch and only use what I like. :dunno:

One of these years we'll all need to get together. If not, there is always BB 2018. Greg will be going to that one.. :waytogo:

Even the little things count!:waytogo:

Nice job!

Giving me ideas for the Sub. engine compartment cage work.:D

I hear ya, tons of little things on these that need to be knocked out to make it one big thing. (The elephant) :doah: ;)

I'd love to see what you have rattling around upstairs with your engine cage ideas. All those tools and skill, I'm sure that it will turn out badass.

Looks fantasic Mike! :thumb:

But whats with the key on the firewall?? :dunno:

Thanks Dean. :waytogo:

Way easier to start and stop the engine when I was breaking it in with the kill switch right there. If something went wrong, I wanted to be able to kill it without climbing around the rig to get to the dash. :thumb:

LOL I was about to comment on the key. Great idea on multiple levels. Talk about the ultimate hidden ignition switch :haha:

Good thinking... but you should have put it on the other side so when you`re playing with the throttle it would be even closer.

Thats the side I would be standing on!! :D

My beer sits on the MC over there when I start it. If I had to move fast and turn it off, there would be a chance that I'd tip over my beer.

Major garage build fail there, if I let that happen.

Key to the left, no fail. :waytogo:

Good greif Mike the total front end done I am pretty sure you could set off a bomb blast right under it and that winch would survive intact.

Lol, I'd hate to land off a sweet jump and have my shocks shoot out and land in the grandstands. :doah: :waytogo: :haha:

How is the car coming?
