There really won't be any progress for a couple of weeks. Heading out in a second for deer hunting, opener is this weekend. The weekends after that are garage weekends hopefully. I would like to get all of the small body welding done and do a temp mount for the bender and get going on that.Thanks Andrew.

Took a couple of pics this last weekend of the reason that I'm building this rig. It's nice to get out of the garage for a breath of fresh air.
We took my bud's 69 on the trip. Nice to be in a 1st gen, even though it needs a lot of work.
And here is the real question. Some of you might remember that big tank that I found at the junk yard grabbing that WS frame for Sean. Well I picked it up yesterday for $20.00. I'm pretty sure that it is one of the NWMP tanks that I have wanted.

We had the same tank in the other rig this weekend and we went through all of it and used 5 gallons that we brought with to make it home. All of our trips are generally 2-3 days and a lot of driving.
Well here it is.
And the hole.
Do you guys think that after I get it ready to be able to weld or cut on, the best way to go would be to Mig or Tig something like this. If it's Tig, I'd need to drop it off and have them do it.
Basically what do you guys think the best way of patching this tank would be, or would ya even?

If it's thick enough to weld on for more than a little spot at a time I would think MIG would work. TIG would probably turn out nicer/be sure not to leak the first time... If it were me I'd try it with the MIG but mostly because I hate paying other people to do stuff for me

Mig should be fine. Just very small and hot tacks to hold a small patch in the hole and make sure the gas is on and then do it all in one pass so theres less chance of air pockets.

I spent a little time in the garage this past weekend. I had to go backwards to move forwards this time, but I'm happy that I did it.
Ended up tearing the pass side rocker off again. Even with adding a sliver in the rocker it was just not going to come out the way that I wanted. I knew that I had to get to the core problem, instead of just adding metal to make it look correct.
Even though I never finished the sliver, I could see the back side of the rocker grew to much. Almost like a lump on a someones forehead. I got one place to hot and had to make another cut to try and open it back up some. All and all it just turned out bad.
I think that I had enough spot welds in it.
It took about three hours of bending and shifting to get the new just about where I wanted it. Turns out that the bottom of my pinch weld (Inner and Rocker box) just hanged to low. I took the grinder and took some of it off. There is still plenty as far as structure support left, but had to take it down, or up for that matter maybe 3/16".
Starting to look like something that I can deal with as far as gap at the bottom of the door.
My wife is starting to really question my sanity on the project. "You do all that work, welding and cutting, just to tear it off again. Do you really ever want to finish this thing"?

Don't know yet. I already fixed the drivers side rocker when I had those crappy repop doors on. I want to hang the new/old one tonight and see what she brings. If I need to do it, to finally be happy with the outcome, off it will come.
Yeah, it sucks to cut on stuff you already did, but to get it the way you want it is worth it. Looking really good though

After I finish the door rocker area, I can finish welding in the boxes.
Then:
Fabricate the front wheel wells to fit, after the slice and dice on the fenders they will not work.
Slice and dice rear quarter panel behind wheels for more clearance.
Close off heater unit on firewall.
Maybe still cut off the front fang. I still really like the look of something like this.
Mount my bender (finally) and start to figure out my sliders/cage.
Bolt everything back together and see how it all works and looks. If all is good, I can take the body back off, hang it and get the Lizard Skin applied to the bottom. At that time I can start to work on the frame again. Doubler mount along with the rest of the drive train for the first time.
Drop it back on the frame for hopefully the last time and start with the paint process.
Still a gazillion steps in between all of these though.
Then:

Sounds like a plan. Your bodywork is coming together great! What was the issue with the work on the front fenders? I still haven't decided what my plan is for my fronts. I need to mount one and see where I'm at now with the front axle 1.5" forward. I know I don't feel like messing with them
