Put my beer money on plane ticket, I don't drink:D:D

Where is it at now Sean?

Cheaper to fly me there and have me drive it out to Mikes place?

Yes I know it would be a huge sacrifice to drive a kick ass 1st gen out to Cali, but i think I could suffer through ya know for the greater good:D

It's in Akron, OH... Not sure how much it'd cost at ~10mpg all that way. Plus would I need tires by the time it got there? Lol. The lack of cruise control would be my biggest deterrent in that case though

Yah if you drove it you should find some cheapies you could destroy and a little utility trailer to put the big ones in.

Good set of radials would only need a tiny amount of tread left on em to make that trip:D:D

If you are serious you should look at antique tractor sites, there are guys going all over the country. Whole lot of them haul loads for people to offset the cost of their trip

I'll definitely check it out. I'd absolutely love to do this, but I need to nail down the specifics a bit more, then clear it with the boss:whistle:

It's been 13.5 hours since you posted that last reply.

When does your flight land? What day can I expect the Blazer?

What temp do you like your beer? I'll set the fridge tonight when I get home.

That's all I can think of now, I guess we'll talk in the truck when I pick you up from the airport.

Ashley said, "wouldn't it be easier to just help him finish his truck and take that?" :haha::haha::haha:

I've been given the go ahead to check prices and whatnot. Seems like the hinging points are really just cost to transport the truck to/from and the cats... I figure it'll be 3 weeks that I would spend out west between helping finish up, wrenching on your truck some hopefully, driving down, blazer bash, drive back and some more work then. If that estimate is way off, tell me. But that being the case, my family will disown me if I spent 3 weeks doing this and less than a week in ohio:haha: So I will need to be in the states for 2 months at least, and that's a long time to have someone else watching our cats...

We'll see what I come up with. Getting excited now though! :saweet:

Actually you'd probably be surprised how many people would watch your cats for a couple of months. Cats are easy compared to dogs, No walks, not much play time involved and they can be left alone for 2-3 days at a time without even checking on them. If they are outside cats put in a cat door, pile up 2 months worth of dry food in a huge bowl and a faucet drip with auto shutoff for drinking and TA-DA Your back in the U, Back in the U, Back in the USA

They're indoor only, plus the one is a fatass that eats like it's his job... The large bowl of food would just result in a fatter cat. I think I'll be able to find someone to watch them, just not sure who yet. Most of the people we associate with here (because my wife works with them) are pretty much douches... Most are super liberal and have a$$wipe kids who would probably leave the door open or something similar. I'm sure I'll figure something out though.

Really, there has not been a lot of progress lately on the rig. BBall for my son is in full swing now, so time has been limited.

The last day I was out in the garage (full day) was a couple of weeks ago. Worked pretty hard that day to get the winch in the hole with the feet forward and bolted up. I was in gear to have it all mounted up that day. I don't know where I lost my train of thought along the way, but I did.

By the time I slid in the four bolts to hold the front plate it was late. I was happy that it all went together pretty well. It didn't take me 2 minutes of checking out my work to find out it was all wrong. Somehow, by using the 1" BL pucks, for checking out how tall I could be at the bumper mount and the core support mount, I ended up getting all mixed up.

I had the winch clocked and whatnot for a proper fit and then I realized that I forgot about the core support. I had the plate following the rake of the front frame horns, bolted in, when it came to my attention that the winch was 1 1/2" too tall. There is no way to cut into the support with the radiator basically touching the bottom, so I had to lower it down.

Spent a couple of hours checking it out last night and I think that I have it figured back out. I just hope that it will be tall enough to fit into the bumper hole that I'll need to make. I really didn't want the fairlead hanging below, so we'll see how it all turn out. Maybe I can get out there on Sunday for some time to get things rolling along again.

Couple pics of where I'm at so far.

Sucks that you had to redo the mount, but I guess it's good that you found out before the frame was in paint...

Yeah, good point dude. I was so frustrated that I forgot about something so important.

Tell ya the truth, I'm happy that it's BBall season now. I was starting to get the builders blues a little. Pushing myself to get out to the garage for progress instead of wanting to go out there to make something, that normally makes me happy.

Hard to explain to someone else, but I know a lot of the guys here will get it.

I was there more than once brother... Now I'd give just about anything for a chance to run a grinder or turn some wrenches. Hopefully basketball goes well for your son and clears your head some. I'm sure in a few weeks you'll be dying to get out there and burn some metal :waytogo:

I hear ya man. for me, it's starting anything that will put the truck out of commission until I'm done. I'm always scared that once it goes down, it'll be down for too long since I'm trying to keep it drivable as much as possible.

don't sweat it though, the truck will still be there when you're ready to play with it again.:D

w3rd! :waytogo:

It's a delicate balancing act though..... too little time in the shop increases the jones to get out there, but you get a lot of "cobwebs" in the brain too.

My most recent strategy that seems to be working is to allow myself two types of garage time..... "hero" time, and "necessary evil" time

Everyone loves "hero time". That's when you get between 8 - 12 unbroken hours of shop time with all of the materials you need already in the shop, lots of caffeine and inspiration to do something BIG with your time. It always feels great, and hero days make you crave more shop time.....

In most builds there is a lot more "necessary evil" time required than hero time.... those are the times when you just need to slog through on some tedious cleaning or prepping step, or where you catch up on a bunch of finish-welding or grinding that didn't get done on a hero day. They are hours that must be paid into the build to get it to the finish line.... and they are a lot harder to get motivated for as well.

I'm realizing that both types of shop days (or hours) are really helpful to the overall progress. If I insist on only having hero days (huge amounts of contiguous hours), the build is going to take a lot longer than if I steal a couple hours here and there where I can find them and make forward progress...

Not every step is a super-creative, fun process. Sometimes you just need to fight through some boring, tedious stuff to get it off your plate.
