Yeah, my bender from sitting outside, has a little rust on her know. I keep the dies inside, so all is good. I figured a little patina on the bender, might keep it at my house vs. someone taking it.

I really wouldn't go with 1.5 on rigs of our size. From doing a ton of reading when I built mine, 1.75 would be the minimum for a full size rig and that's pushing it some.

You know I'll help ya out with anything you need. Between some pics and a couple of phone calls, we could dial it in pretty good, I'm thinking. :pimp:

Noted. I wasn't sure with the OD if it would be alright or not. My BIL (who's house I'm at now) has a buddy that owns a fab shop/diesel tuning place. I think I'll see what he can set me up with. Being that he's a pretty good friend of the bro in law I'm hoping he can get me a pretty sweet deal. If I can get this motor installed in the next couple weeks maybe I'll drive it down here next time and let him do his thang. I wish I could do it all myself, but with all my tools 5,000 miles away I think I'd be better off just getting one in there. I'll do the tube work on the next project:D

Man, just did a little math and that seems pretty high. I can't remember how much I have in mine, but it has to be 4-5 sticks. I really don't know though, I just kept buying the damn stuff and putting tube everywhere. :haha:

Even if it was only 4 sticks, you're still going to be in the 2500-3k range by the time you're done.

Maybe that's right. :dunno:

I do know that we could build it for $350-450 plus consumables, though. :D

How'd you get that math? I got $240 + bends @ $3 each...

Either way, limited by tubing size at that place, so I'll keep looking. Hopefully the other guys price will be sweet because he's a friend of a relative:waytogo:

Thanks Paul. I'm pretty excited about the new dies. It's kinda a game on thing. :woot: I thought that you had a 1" already? I thought I grabbed a bar to get into your rig?

No, I'm not looking through the novel to see. :haha:

Mike is right 1.75 is about the minimum you want to go. For a full bodied rig 2" is better. But 1.75 DOM will work also.

I need to get a 1" die. Been meaning too for a long time but you know how that goes.

BTW I would bet there is more like 7+ sticks of tube in there. If you don't have tons of small scraps laying around it adds up pretty quick. I bet I have 2 full sticks that are 18" long or less I use them all the time for different little things. Really makes a difference when you are building something.

Looks good Mike!

Tilt your gun a little more vertical to get rid of the "pointy-ness" of the welds, and move a bit slower to tighten up the spacing of the dimes. :waytogo:

That's all I got for now....

Father's Day = Garage Day?

I have 2" and 1.5"

yes, that was a 1" grab handle.. but it's solid.. heated and bent with a rosebud...

Lol, I had to call the supply shop since you guys had me thinking. I have bought 11 sticks of 1.75 DOM so far from them. :doah: :haha:

I have one 5' piece and some small scrap in the garage as of last night. Just enough to finish up the bumper OR the drivers shock mount. Gonna need some more. :D

I don't really think that I have 11 sticks in the rig, but figure the cage, engine cage, octopus looking thing for the doubler and cage tie-ins, it is right up there. :pimp:

I was hoping someone would chime in on the beads. I kinda changed it around a bit after looking at yours when you did your truss. I was doing a lot of "e's", and now kinda switched it up to more of a strait line weld, if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the tip, Greg. :waytogo:

ps. We better see an update after father day. I want to see some super fenders. :woot:

I don't know if it's the way the "pros" do it, but on a hot, fat weld like the truss I'd just saturate the puddle with wire, then move forward maybe 1/8" - 3/16" and dwell in that spot until the puddle filled in the gap again....then move again, dwell....repeat, etc.

My gun angle is almost completely vertical most of the time, but that's because I weld flat on the bench whenever possible. Welding "in position" is a lot harder, especially on uphills. For those, I saw a technique where you draw a small triangle shape (up diagonally, then straight across, then back down) to help keep the puddle from dripping down too much. I tried that when I had to weld in my frame braces, etc, and it worked pretty slick!

The garage is still a total mess, but at least I got some stickers on my new toolboxes. I will try like hell to get the garage cleaned on Saturday, so that Sunday can be a "hero day"..... we'll see.

I really like the triangle idea. Being me, I probably would have done it backwards and had a huge glob at the bottom of the weld. Going across at the top (Uphill) should clear some of that up. :waytogo:

Had to take off for a bit as I thought there was a structure fire here in Chico. Turned out to be just a travel trailer, but got a couple of cool shots.

Hey Mike,

Is the model welder you are using listed somewhere in this thread? I'm shopping around for a hotter one and your welds look pretty decent even on the big stuff.

It's the Miller 211 110/220 unit. I sure do like it, but honestly it's my first welder. I did have a friend over who is a welding inspector once I first got it running to give me a run through. He really loved the little welder.

Go with Blue is still going till the end of August, too. Nice sale

Yeah nice job welding! :waytogo:

Thanks Bro. Can't wait to brink some neers with ya in a couple of months. :woot:
