Lol.... oh the hub caps are staying if nothing more than for the WTF looks and comments. :pimp:

I’m with a satin. I guess I really haven’t put much thought into it until the last couple of days.

I couldn’t agree more on the accents. I may hate it, or not even do it, honestly. I guess we’ll see what they look like. If they turn out like a pink shock boot, they’ll get blasted again and shot black.

I got no problem with trying things out....that's always been part of my own "process" when I build. Sometimes you just have to see it rendered to know if it's going to work or not....and in this case, it's only paint. Easy to change when bad decisions get made.... :)

I agree with @Greg72 and use satin black (rustoleum 7777) on everything under the truck.

The axles are already spray bombed with rustoleum hammered black. I really did want to keep those shot with a can for easy touch up. The frame and everything higher, I want to do it in a primer and a paint with a hardner in it. Maybe order everything from Eastwood if I can find it on their site.

I agree with everyone else on the satin black.
I often cringe when people get too cute with "accent" colors on the underside of a truck. Painting a random bracket, shock mount or steering stabilizer makes the whole thing feel disjointed and ADHD-inspired....

I'm with Greg on this one. I think the body mount brackets would be way too much "accent". If you really want to do something, I'd say a skid plate or something. I know that sounds like even more orange, but I think a big "bolt-on" item makes more sense than several small pieces of your frame (and I know yours are bolted on. :P )

just make sure you run a 2k primer over that green.. urethane.. epoxy will fug up... scuff the he!! out of it, blow off... denature, damp/dry...

didn't catch the whole convo, but I tend to favor black for most undercarriage stuff... i try to be pretty strategic in what gets color... it's already circus-y enough... ;) i can never see me painting say, spring plates a color...

Is there a guy you can take it to there to get the whole frame powdercoated so it's a lot tougher? Or you want to be able to touch it up when you drag it over rocks?

I think most of what you need to know about paint / prep is in this thread...... only 23 pages long, shouldn't take much to find the "gems" in there.

Unfortunately, almost all of the PB links are now broken... so you don't get to see pretty pictures.

I thought there was no way that the Ryoken/Chief thread was only 23 pages. I found the correct one. 346 pages with over 6k in replies. :eek1: :haha:

Agreed on the accents. We'll see what happens. I don't want a clown truck.

Great info on the 2k.... I would have already screwed up. :doah: :haha:

A nice coat of satin black on a frame always gives me a warm fuzzy. I've always liked the Eastwood Chasis Black paint.

Probably going to give them a shot.

I really want to stay away from the powdercoat thing. It would be awesome on another rig, just not this one. I'm afraid that once you damage the outer shell, you're kinda screwed. Plus, I know there will be more work later on. Re-adjusting things, adding things like bump stops and such. I think it will be a lot easier with paint.

A lot of you guys seen this from FB. But last night I was able to put some heavy tacks on the C's and was able to get everything out for final welding and caps. This should mark the end of the frame fab and on with the next phase of blowing this thing apart to the last bolt. :waytogo:

AGLSHM,

Seems like you are already doing this, but...... TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS!!!

Not just for CK5, but to document how everything fits together and comes apart. I know it seems "obvious" but when all the parts are painted and looking very different than they do now it might be a real surprise to realize you can't remember which way things fit.... whether the shim goes ABOVE or BELOW the bracket, etc. The more photos you have to look back on, the more likely you are to find evidence of how to reassemble.

Satin Black for the frame seems like the "stock" way to go...
+1 The highest quality junk is usually done in black or something simple and subdued, and folks have to look closely to see your work. Make the passers by linger at your SEMA booth.

That’s some killer weeknight progress. Your fitup and prep is really top notch.

That's hell for stout rear bump.

I'll be the different guy, I like a semi gloss on the underside of a truck.

I would say that's the majority of people.. semi, satin... it looks the best...... gloss is vastly more durable, and eventually tends to dull down a bit, but looks cheesy..... satin/semi tends to get dirty, stay dirty looking easier.. harder to clean...

I agree, out here in AZ it just gets dusty which is why I tend to go with a semi. It's not to excessive but has a little sheen to it.
