You gonna assemble this beast with all stainless hardware so it looks pretty? Or maybe all CAT bolts would be cool too!

I don’t know now... lol

The plan was just to use the tractor supply grade 8 goldies but now you have me looking at stainless. I do have some of the new Nordlock washers that I’m going to try out to see if they fug up the paint. I guess it will be trial and error at first.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on it?

i run the fluted ones like the bottom... in various blade #s... but then again, the vast majority of my countersinking is in alum... easy peezy...

Yeah, three blade in steel is a bit chunky.

Mike,

A 5 point but works pretty decent for me. The 3 pointers do wobble too much without a fixture.

I’m not sure why this ones so cheap, but is similar to what I used, except it’s a bit deeper flutes.

Thanks Brian. I’ll see if this one lasts. I have 18 more holes to go. If I need another one, it will be a five blade like you posted up.

I'm not a fan of stainless. Too soft and has a tendency to gall. I've encountered more galled stainless fasteners than I can count and can only count the number of times where the tech felt it soon enough and stopped early enough to where I was able to remove it without having to break or cut the fastener. Now we work with super cleaned hardware which in turn removes all lubrication which causes the problem. But even with proper lubrication once exposed to the elements I could see problems when the time comes to disassemble something. 99% of the time they seize so bad you need to cut the head off.

I have used the Nordlock washers but wasn't concerned with the surface finish, just in them holding, so I can say they did their job there but don't remember what they looked like when removed.

Cool. So stainless is out.

Good... That looked expensive. Lol

Thanks for the reply!

Isn’t stainless more brittle than 8 grade (which is more brittle than 5 grade)?

standard SS bolts are equivalent to about a GR-2 strength... the proper way to do true stainless, high strength bolts is with the ARP catalog. they’ve got the good stuff.

Should only cost a couple grand to get what is needed.

:)

Tractor Supply here I come. :haha:

Happy New Year everyone. :waytogo:

I brought in 2020 with some garage sparklers and the hot glue gun. Really happy how these skid plates came out. The only fab that I didn’t get knocked out on the rig were some bumper ends. Those should be fairly fast and should close out the remaining fabrication on the ‘69.

Should be able to drop this from space now...of course the impact crater would be so deep it'd start another ice age. :waytogo:

Someone call Greta, we have the solution to global warming!

Lol... it’s too late to change the overall theme of tankishness... :haha:

These sliders are pretty heavy. If I was to do it over, I’d probably go a little lighter somehow. It should be good for some protection, though. ;)
