With the heat, glad you guys understand. I pretty much do this to myself every year. It’s almost like I don’t remember or just don’t think that it’s going to get this hot out year after year. Then of course it is. This weekend would be great Blazer days, but it looks like a 105 and a 107. Screw that. Lol I’ll catch up on Netflix.

Hi Kids!!! Whatcha all been up to? 
As promised, a little bit of cooler weather has started another push on the Blazer. This push is pretty much all about the tub and a bunch of sheet metal mods.

Fixing the floor for the e-brake cable, shifter cable and two extra for future wiring for rocker switches on the console. Then a little fab for the triple sticks.
And then the other day I was talking to AJ and I told hm I wanted to put some 6.5” speakers in the kick panels. He said they wouldn’t fit flush. With enough beers and a grinder last night, I proved him wrong. Lol

The front fender has a LOT of curvature around that "fresh air leaf collector" box and creates and even larger volume of air that can be exploited to build sealed enclosures in that area.
I cut out the fresh air boxes completely, and plan to template out a large curved speakerbox to use all of the room in that area for a couple of mid-bass drivers and a tweeter down low as well. That should keep it all nicely concealed and a lot more "kick proof" that a traditional floor or side-mounted "pod" that a lot of guys use.
Nice work on the trans hump / shifter setup!!!!

I thought about removing the vents completely, but I love having them too much. They really help in the Cummins in the summer here, so I want them still in the blazer also.
I think I’m just going to fab a box around the wet side of that speaker, filled with dynamat or something, mod the bottom of the leaf catcher and call it good. This will be the first time using seam sealer on this project. I really can’t think of a better way of sealing everything up.

just build the speaker enclosure nice and large. They are expecting to have the air volume of a typical hollow door behind them (not just a tiny box) and the low-end will suffer if you don’t allow them to move in a good volume of air...

Good info. I’ll see what I can come up with. Maybe to add more volume to the box I could run a skinny box up the side of the pillar too.
The scientific term is “mechanical damping”... a small box resists the cone movement (less excursion) a large box let’s it really move air like it wants to... a smallish box filled with polyfill can “appear” larger to the speaker but that’s not a cure-all for bad box design.

Honestly, I wouldn't get too carried away trying to make that box area big. I think you'll really be disappointed with how much sound you're going to be able to hear from that area anyway. With the top off (or a soft top) at any speed at all you can't hear shit from down there. I mounted speakers in the A/C outlets in the dash to get them more directly in front of me, and that helped a lot, but still isn't great at speed without turning the whole system up so loud that it blasts out any rear passengers.
The next thing I'm going to try is mounting some speakers on the roll cage just above, or just in front of my head so that I can actually hear them.

I was hoping to put some tweeters up higher. Maybe attached to the cage tube just above the dash. Then some 8’s behind the front seats, then a sub in the rear. I plan to make boxes in the bedsides and then waterproof them with Ardex 8+9 or SK1. Then have them covered.
Sounds like a decent plan. I put a sub way in the back and without the hardtop on it was too far away. Going behind the seats is a good call if you can squeeze the room.

Nice work. The trans hump looks great. I also want to put speakers in the kick panel. But without ac I need those vents in the summer. The extra ones that fit there aftermarket I’ve never thought looked good personally. You have a good plan. You can also make the box bandpass with a port to move more air if the speaker hits hard enough. That’s more of a subwoofer deal though but if you have a pair of say 8 inch mids it would help in a smaller space. Especially since most doors are not really well sealed and have a flapper deal and bottom vents to release pressure and drain water.
Is this thing done yet? Damn...
