hmmm, I've never heard bad about that unit.... I flog the sh*t out of my 180 without a hiccup yet, love my miller.. Lincolns, I haven't had as much luck with..

Well that freeking sucks.

Same thing blew last time?

I guess I officially don't know yet till I open it up again. It did smell the same and I seen sparks from inside the box, just like last time. I'll see if I can get out there tonight and open it up. :dunno:

Aww man that sucks. My older miller has been dang near bullet proof. Amazing machine. In all the years I have had it I have only blown one resistor. Cost 50 bucks to fix.

I'm pretty sure there's at least a couple man points involved for doing so much welding that your welder blows up. :)

It figures it would blow after, what I call... the best weld of my life. :doah: :haha:

Come grab mine, not like I know how to use it.:doah: it will just cost you those speed holes.:pimp:

The dimples or the nickname? One I bought, one was given. So, I can only get rid of one. :thumb:

As Eric once said one the phone one time.... The nickname could have been a lot worse. lol:whistle: :D

Alright, I opened it up and I might not be in as bad of shape as I was thinking. At least it doesn't look like the motherboard is fried like last time. That's the big ticket item.

Problem is, I don't know where to stick my speed square, hammer of chisel to test it and figure out what part is bad? :dunno:

Lol, a lot of those beginning welds were ground off and do-overs..

In fact, I have probably 8 miles worth of welds on the rig, when it only really needed 6. :haha:

That's gay!
But is probably something fairly cheep to fix... I hope for you!

Now if you had my nice plastic speed square you could shove it it there... but that metal one you got might give you a new nickname!? :haha:

Lol, you still using that orange POS? Did you ever put that new blade on your sweet saw I gave ya, or are you still using that three teeth beast? :pimp:

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read the entire thread. Hopefully it was enjoyable and you didn't think it was a waste of your time to get to this point. :waytogo:

Very much so (enjoyable), there were lots of things I thought about commenting on along the way, but they were from years ago. Seems silly to comment now. I do love the bumpers.

The main thing, is so many other things make sense now. I have been trying to figure out who you were since you added me on Facebook.........

I did put it on about a month ago! Cuts like a hot knife through butter! :haha:
Thanks!!

Still has that sweet cord on it too! :doah::haha:

All I did was hit the trigger and boom, the entire garage went dark. It actually flipped the main in the house, which has never happened before. Went back out to the sweet smell of burnt circuit board. I just dropped everything, shut off the lights and walked back down to the house, pissed.

That's a bummer Mike. Are you sure something else is not going on there? If it flipped the main in the house without tripping that circuit first you may have some other issues there you might want to get checked out. Maybe the welder is not the root cause?

Sounds like a bad breaker in the garage to me. If it tripped the main in your house guessing 200A, there would be a massive spark/short and would guess a fire inside the welder. And yes breakers do smell like burning circuit board when they go. SCR's don't look burnt, same with the transformer, and there are no caps blown off the motherboard.

I guess, I should clarify. The house has the main on the furthest wall from the garage. On the other end of the house, closest to the garage, there is a sub-panel with breakers for 1/4 of the house, the shed and the garage. That is the one that tripped. The 50 amp for the welder and Quincy are in the house, in that sub panel vs. the garage panel filled with 15's and 20's. Just kinda weird, as I've never seen that one trip before.

Just send up here to me for further diagnostic testing.

I thought Greg grounded you and you get no cookies now. :dunno: Once you're off restriction, we can talk. :tongue1: :D

Anyways, I really wanted to get some more done this weekend. My neighbor is a fence guy with a couple of smaller welders and an older 250. We trade stuff back and forth all the time if one of us are able to lend a hand. Saturday, he had to work so I took over his garage for awhile. :thumb:

I tell ya, using a different welder is, well, different. :doah::haha:
His was loaded with .035 and seamed to burn a little hotter. Some of the welds came out nice, some didn't. One spot I ran into porosity so bad, I wanted to throw the piece down his driveway.

When he got home he said that it did that sometimes to him. We're thinking a bad liner? I did get a lot done, but it will be nice to get my welder back from the shop hopefully by the end of the week to do some touch up work around the speed holes, clean of one of the chitty welds and weld the back plate in.

All, in all, I had progress with out a working welder at my house. So I call that a good weekend.

pics....

And just because I turned 41 last week and had a couple of pics I wanted to throw in here for later viewing.

Drinkin' a couple of Neers with my buddy Gordon.

And later that night.....way later..... after Gordon had left, using the frame horns to buckle me into my chair while drunk texting Greg. :doah::haha:

Still need to do the touch up welding, but I mounted the brace and got the center crossmember bolt in last night. It came out pretty sweet. I must have left my correct length bolts over at the neighbors tho. I'll grab them today.

Overall, I'm super happy and excited now. Today I'm going to drill out my bottom engine mount bolts through the frame and finally get them mounted. Then I can take off the front crossmember and finish the work on clearance for the crank pulley. It's just too close now. Maybe 3/8". Later today, I'm going to order the Borgeson steering shaft and adjustable sending unit for the tank. If all goes good, I'd love to be able to steer this thing from the drivers seat by the end of the weekend.

I have to say that steering brace looks way beefier than the bolts that mount it in! beefcake! :)
