I think that's a great idea!!!!
Thanks for helping out yesterday. I was a lot of fun. We'll need to get you a shirt or something to make it official.
Cool stuff goin to on there. Lot of cool old iron too.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
So, a little MPS progress. Like normal, on MPS, I didn't get as much done as I wished. But it's tough keeping score, all the bar graphs and pie charts needed to accumulate accurate scoring and all. It takes up a lot of my build time. I must say that it is well worth it though.
I did make a little progress on the hidden tube back bumper. At least I managed to mount the skin and go through a million measurements, making sure it will work for everything else that I have going on.
I ended up just getting it tacked in with some scrap angle iron for the time being. After laying under the truck for awhile, figuring out how I'm going to mount the tubes, I hit a road block. I need everything to start from the very ends of the tube bumper and move my way to the center with the bracing. Unfortunately, that starts with the tire carrier mount which I didn't have time for yesterday. But it is all mocked up and ready for the next time I'm in the shop.
Pics.
What I started with.
I built plates for the sides and was able to mount the rear most holes. That area was only two plates of 1/4" and the frame. I figured the rest of the bolts can happen when I take it apart again. It's 2" worth of steel back there now. Not very fun to drill through in that position.
Mocked up with clamps and spacers.
Here is the area that I need to figure out some. The tubes, I think, are going to come off the tube bumper at a "Y", then shoot back to the frame. The bumper is wide and I only have 3.75 worth of frame width to land it on. I don't want to just run single tubes from the center (up and down) of the bumper. I'd like to split it somehow so I have support at the top and bottom.
And started to make some skin mounting plates.
In the end, it came out looking like this.
Been waiting for this look for about three years. Glad it finally worked out.
Everything still needs a lot of love still, but I think that it's all going to work out nice.
In the end, after the cards were counted and Super Zim beat out the Canadian team of Russell and Rene it was time for a beer.
Hell, I had a guest sitting in the driveway wearing a Tux all day and my wife wanted to hang out. So all three of us had a couple cold ones and enjoyed each others company. All in all, a nice day.
