C-List score :woot:

Was up late last night checking on prices for some new doors and fenders. Had the order all made with shipping and it would have been just under $1400.00. I held off and checked C-list one more time, this time checking the bay area. Found an add for a guy selling a lot of stuff off his blazer before he finished it. I guess that he had not touched the project since 08. I think that he jumped in head first with ordering a ton of new parts and panels before he realized how much rust repair he had in store for him.

Anyways, these doors were installed with the fenders and sat on his rusty rig for the last 3 years or so. I talked to him last night about picking them up this weekend. Well, I couldn't sleep at all last night with the thought of them being gone by the time I got there. I think that he was surprised with my call at 7:30 this morning telling him I'm an hour into my drive and I'd see him at 9:00.

The great thing about this is, I ended up getting two new doors, two new fenders and a new painless wiring harness for $550.00.:saweet:

I can't wait for some time this weekend to really align everything with the panels that I'm hopefully going to use.

oh, and with the attachments being down, I finally spent some time to figure out photobucket.

sorry to hear Mike... patience son...

eh, who am I kidding, I understand completely.. :haha:

Well it's been a while since any huge progress has happened on the rig. I have been working on it, just the things that I have been doing sure are taking there time.

The last update was of the huge score from c-list. Turns out it may not have been that big of a score. After hanging the doors and fenders, it turned out that the fenders were just not going to work. I spent two weekends on them, taking them off, putting them back on, taking them off and so on. You get the idea. Never really noticed, but the top of the fender has a slight bow to follow the hood lines. This new repop just didn't have it. By the time I got out to the core support it was way off.

Well I ended up with a entire front clip off a pickup. It was part of a deal for another 69'. My buddy was a little short on some funds a while back and he really wanted this blazer down the street. I have been talking with the guy for some time and he finally needed to sell. Ended up borrowing the cash to my bud and in return I ended up with the front clip. Worked out really well, he got a good runner and I got some new tins.

After blasting the new fenders and getting them green, I hung them with my fingers crossed. Amazingly they worked even better than the originals. So, I have been trying to get all of gaps where I want them and it has been kinda kicking my ass. I have everything really close, but I know I'm still a weekend away from having a beer in my hand, looking at the truck going, Yeah, that's it.

On with a couple of pics.

Getting really close with the new quarter panel. I ended up putting a little mud on to see if all was going to come out ok. Still have a bunch of blocking, but I think that it will end up working ok. Probably should have used a little duraglass, with reading the Rust Bullet thread. The thing is the panel and welds came out really flat. I had only one area that got a little hot towards the top, but over all I don't think that there is going to be to a lot of filler when I'm all done.

The inside I still have some more welds to go along with my favorite part, grinding.

Still have one major problem with the doors. I have the top portion nice and flat, body line perfect, but the door on both sides goes in around the middle. Been thinking about this one, I may end up cutting the inner jamb of the door with two small pie cuts to see if I can squish the door out. Still haven't cut, just that's where I'm at now.

I guess in this pic, it looks like the door bottom is in. It does come out much better, just don't have the bumpers in yet to push the door out.

I did end up finally getting the rest of the dash in green. I don't know what took me so long just one of those things, I guess. I wish I would have done it the first time, when I had it done. Had to clean it all again to make sure that there was no surface rust on it.

Moved over to my outer rockers one day. These things have been on my sh!t list since I installed them. They just never came out far enough to sit flush with the bottom of the door, fender or quarter. Now that I have them where I wanted, it was time to fix them. Still have not finished, but they are going to come out alright.

Cut some shims to push it out.

Getting it even with the other panels.

And a little Bling to end this update.

Nice work Mike....!!

Those lower rockers are going to look nice when you get them dialed-in. I can't even count the number of restorations I've seen where the truck is in final paint and those outer rockers aren't even CLOSE to lined up with any of the surrounding fenders or doors. It's a subtle thing, but once you've seen it done correctly...... you'll always notice every other truck out there that didn't take the time to get it "just right".

Kudos!

Thanks Greg, :waytogo:

Those things have been bothering me since day one. I just never wanted to touch them until I had the other panels that were going to stay on the blazer.

You are correct on people just leaving them. Over the last couple of months every 67-72 that I had seen, that's where my eye went. I suppose it was to see how all of the other ones lined up that were on a restored vehicle. Many just don't line up. The same thing goes with the door gaps, cowl gaps and hood gaps.

I just don't see taking all the time to "De-rust" one of these without trying to go the extra mile.

Hopefully all of the extra work I'm putting into it will pay off in the end.

Looking good.

Are you running a 1" body lift? I ran into a few body clearance issues with the doubler and no body lift. Ended up having to cut the floor behind the tranny hump and on the side to fit the triple stick shifter.

Yep, Hopefully I don't end up with too much of an issue.

A little progress this weekend. My camera had to go into the shop, so some of these in the beginning are with my phone.

Finished up the drivers rocker. I really had to slice and dice this thing to make it work, but came out pretty nice. Don't think that I have a finished pic but here are a couple of the progress.

Ended up working on some more trimming this weekend. I have both the pass side front quarter and the back portion of the pass side fender about 85% done. Still need to do some more dolly work to both, but here are the pics so far.

And the front. I'm really trying to keep with the flow of the body lines.

Working my way down.

The side view, "Money Shot". Still need to finish up the bottom and decide if I can bang out the dent or if I'm going to replace it.

Here is what I'm thinking for the front fang. Have not cut yet, but the idea is to bring the "lip" all the way around on the bottom to the front of the rig. You guys think that will look like it's to much or will it give it a nice finished look?

not that I'm any sort of expert on the subject, but I think your work is fantastic! your attention to detail is amazing.
I am very impressed with the way you are keeping the lip on the fenders even with your cutouts.
