Made a little Friday progress. Kinda slow at work as I'm waiting for a permit to go through on the next job.

Got out there at 6:30 and turned on the lights. Naturally, the next thing to do was to send Greg a pic of the garage all lite up, telling him to have a nice day at work while I'm playing. Kinda a dick move, but he would do the same. :haha:

Back seat progress. Got it all welded up. Even had time to hit the welding store for some more wire, too. I plan on making a nice push this weekend. :thumb:

Pics

And added another beer chair to the driveway. :D during the next couple of hours, anybody that stopped by had to sit in the seat. I wanted to measure everyone for the shoulder straps. I think I came up with a good compromise between adult and kids. So, some tabs tomorrow and Sunday with hopefully some more cage welding, c-pillar mounts, gas tank install and rear hitch. I'm going to wait for now on the entire rear bumper until I do a wheelie first. :woot:

WTF was that! :haha:

Oh the thoughts that come to my brain

Pretty sure you were thinking em to Dean. You sir are a sick bastard:D:D

No Eric...I wasn`t :doah: I really got to be carful what I say on here. :haha:

Sorry Mike! Back to the build.
Good luck getting a bunch of stuff done to her this weekend! :thumb:

Watching what you are doing sure looks a lot like watching Gregs build!
Very nice display of tube and sweet welding...it`s like a competition between you guys.

Very cool! :waytogo:

You wouldn't be the first guy I nicknamed "Richard"...... But for now I'm just going to keep things going with the "YMCA-themed" insults. :haha:

Looks good though, gotta admit. :waytogo:

I'm with Dean on that one. WTF? Lol I'm glad I didn't notice it was a link at 3 this morning when I posted. I would have never been able to go back to sleep. Creepy....:eek1: :haha:

Beleive me, it's far from a competition. I have to fall back way to often to help him do stuff correct all the time. Sometimes it takes him two or three times, but he's coming along. Thank god he has a large pocket for tuition.

I gotta give it to you and Greg, this site has to have 2 of the sweetest 69-72 K5 builds around. Very nice work sirs

Thank you, Sir. Honestly it's cool to be mentioned in the same class as that cat. The stuff he can come up with is pretty insane. :pimp:

Wouldn't the rear bumper help with said wheel stand?

Dude, if she flips on her lid, backwards, just think, I can test the entire drivetrain, cage and seat belts all in one pull.

Now that's multitasking....:doah: :haha:

You've called me worse. :haha:

Sounds like you had a good, Dad day with Danger. Good stuff and thanks for admitting it looked nice. I hope it wasn't hard. :haha:

Today was spent on a rear seat belts. I really thought these would have been knocked out pretty quick today. I was wrong. Between dragging my son out of bed a couple of times to "sit in the seat",and the lack of room to move to around without being a pain, it took all day. :doah: I got her tho and am moving on to something else tomorrow.

Really? Prp seat and corbeau belts? That's unacceptable!

Jk nice progress :D

Corbeau were the only ones with the three point harness. I'd really like to not have a B pillar bar behind the seats.

PRP seats were the only reclining seats available.

Not much I could do about that. Besides, maybe I can get BOTH to sponsor my gas bill. :waytogo:

Thanks Adam.

Ok, what's with the metal tube "bats" under the seat?

Prolly shouldn't put this on an open forum in fear for my family's safety...but

 :haha:

Really, I had to add two bars and the "Bats" for the waist belts. I figured it was better than just welding tabs to each side of the tube. Not that it really would ever matter, but this way they fight each other vs. just pulling on a tab, if something did happen.

At least that was my thinking at the moment. It shows it in the last pic.

So my .02

Shoulder harness should not be mounted to the "floor". According to the NHRA safety book. They should go 3-6 inches or so below the height of the shoulder of the seat.

Looking good though.

Trust me, I would have loved to make them a lot closer to that top back bar. Even wrapping around it. Right now they have the possibility of getting damaged loading cargo. I guess if they didn't work, they wouldn't have sent them though. :dunno:

As Greg said yesterday, just use them for now, welding in the tabs and all, vs. welding tabs in later when it's painted.

Kinda where I'm at for now.

Thanks too. :waytogo:

So, I made a mess. I wanted to get so much more done, but it just didn't happen this weekend.

As I do every couple of weeks, I post this stuff on FB to show my non CK5 friends. Joe Rollins popped in with some compliments and advise. I've been trying to get Joe to weld up everything on this for a long time as the dude is pretty much badass with the gun.

It never worked out and I pretty much just pushed forward.

He mentioned the splatter and maybe a change of gas to the 75/25. Unfortunately, I was already running to. Talked about wire speed and whatnot. Anyways he mentioned wind. Well I was inside, but running a fan with just the draw running across the area that I was working in.

PSA- Turn off the wind machines. I couldn't feel anything where I was welding, but today I shut everything down and my whole splatter thing almost 100% went away.

I know it's common sense for innershield, but I didn't think that it would matter that much.

Some pics

Some of the mess

Made the shock holes bigger.

And some of the welds for me to look back on later. You can tell the ones where there was no wind/fan. There is still a lot of clean up to do on some.

I started to look at the back and for a Sunday afternoon, it's way too much for me to think about.

Basically the way it all folds out is I need the c-pillars, rear tub mounts, tank, flip's, hitch and a way to the stock bumper to mount to with a swing out tire carrier and jerry cans to mount to.

It's a lot to do in 18" worth of frame.

So I called Eric instead. He is always good for a couple of hours.:thumb: :waytogo:

And for Eric, My first selfie from before we talked, to prove that the rear will fit more rounderererer type fellas. If I would have known it was for you, Eric, I woulda smiled. :D

Looks like you're making some good progress bud! How long until that wheelie???

The worst part of it was, I left my beer on the workbench. I tried to get it really hard.

That was a good test for the belts. :haha:

Wheelie? I don't know, the back is going to take a lot more time than I thought. :dunno:

"Seatbelt Selfies...."

You know you want to try it now. :waytogo: :woot:

I see now. Makes sense, I kinda like it since it adds some extra insurance.

I guess progress come in all forms. This is,

After all the years building this thing, you would figure that I have a pretty good plan on the entire project about now. Some parts of the build are pretty easy, some, not so easy.

Anyways, the thought of this rear area of the rig has really been kicking my behind. My original plan was to mount the gas tank, tighten everything up and take it for a spin. Yes, there was still a lot to do, but a spin around the block would have been cool.

During my thought process on the rear, I just couldn't come up with a good way to fit everything in such a small area of frame. The way it measures out (minus the front mounts on the tank) I have about 12" to mount a ton of stuff.

I really want to keep the same look with using the stock rear bumper. But, as with the front, there is a ton of work with that. I came up with a list of what all needs to mount in the last part of the frame. They included, hitch. flips, tow points, stock bumper, stock bumper tube work, gas tank, skid plate, c-pillars to frame, swing out tire carrier with jerry cans and rear tub mounts.

I started with the tank. I sent Greg a couple of pics and I got in return what I had thought but didn't want to do. I was going to be in trouble if I didn't start cutting up the tank. This was the same tank that I got out of the Blazer from the junk yard where I also got Sean's windshield frame.

Here are pics of some, no progress, progress. :waytogo:

The tank sitting a little lower due to the 1" BL was still way too close to the diff.

and back as far as it was pretty much going to go.

So I started marking and cutting.

I did find a baffle in the old tank, but I'll probably need to add another one.

Old Pick up

But at that point I realized I was working hard not smart. So, for the old group that was here in the beginning, I bring you the old new. :doah: :thumb:

This should make it a lot easier to finish the back up along with all the rest of the frame, suspension and drivetrain.

I came up with a plan too. You can all follow along with this blueprint that I made sitting behind the frame coming up with ideas.

I pretty excited that I lifted it off again. Gives a whole new view of what I need to do. My help was not so impressed though.
