I'm beginning to diagnose my A/C. First of all the electrical connections were stuffed away near the firewall. I've reatteched the connector and the ground as you see in the picture. However there is another connector (green arrow) that I don't know where it goes. Any idea?

I bet that was the idle "kick up" solenoid wire. I notice that the stock carb is missing and I bet that carb had a electric solenoid mounted on it that would "kick up" the idle speed when you turn on the air. Edelbrock makes this solenoid for thier carb if you need it.

I think it looks like it would be long enough if the wires were routed a little different. I think they are supposed to run along the valve cover, at the edge of the intake manifold. The solenoid would be on the left front of the carb, the wire would only need to reach within a couple inches of that corner of the carb.

I think I remember that exact connector for the idle kick-up solenoid. Just put a voltmeter or test light on it and see if you get 12V when the compressor kicks in.

Ok, thanks. My problem now is that the compressor won't turn on. I need to get the system fully charged. I think there is a pressure switch that isn't turning on.

If you are sure that there is enough of a charge to properly operate, you can jumper the low pressure cut-off switch on the accumulator. If it kicks on, then the switch is bad, IF there is actually enough freon in there.
