I've tried searching and couldn't come up with a definite answer.

I removed all the a/c stuff from my K5. What I'm wondering about is it possible to use the a/c condensor for a tranny cooler?

I asked our mechanics at work this. They suggested that although you could it would be better to buy a transmission cooler. Something about not being able to get in cleaned out and contaminating the tranny fluid.

So in other words I dunno......

I've heard it works, But I've also heard that it could actually cool the trans fluid too much, but I haven't heard anything definate.

yes you can. but it will basicly never reach oporating temps. and to cold is almost as bad as to hot. get a cooler. and i like the plate stacked my self as thay are like a mini rad.

Yep, it can be done. I've done it once.

Need a good flushing. Alcohol worked well for me for the flush.

Overcooling is an issue though. I didn't have a problem in the summer but as the weather got colder it became more of an issue. I ended up plumbing in a bypass back through the rad in the winter. Just turn the valve and you can sort of tune the temperature as to how much fluid goes one way or the other. Do you have a trans temp gauge?

My plan is to buy a tranny temp gauge, but if overcooling is going to be an issue for the colder months, I might just go get a stacked cooler. Gotta make this 700r4 last as long as possible lol

I did it on my old blue truck and was happy with the outcome. I had a 2500rpm stall, 42's and a 6500lbs truck so the overcooling was never and issue. It never ever got hot though, which I had a 24,000gvw cooler that would let it get above 225 until I let off. I bought some compression fittings for the condensor that would work with trans line fittings. You can see them in the pic below.
