a/c conversion

I just purchased an 81 K20, and it did not come with a/c originally. well the lever that goes from off / heat / def is broke off. when I replace that unit I was wondering how hard it would be to get one that accommodates a/d, and put all the duct work in there at the same time?

its going to be expensive and a major major pita, i dont know if anyone has done this on here, but honestly if i wanted a/c and didnt have it i'd be looking for a different truck. im sure someone on here has done it, but most ppl do it the other way around, they have a truck with ac and want to rip it out.

there has got to be parts I can get from a junked truck that wouldn't be much to put in, but quite a bit of labor would be my guess. I'm ok doing the labor as long as the expense is somewhat reasonable.

this truck isn't going to be a trail truck only. the non stock mods will be minimal, and I'll actually use it as a truck. when I head to utah to get something for my house etc it would be nice to have a/c. however it isn't a deal breaker I can live without it.

I'm betting if I go about this right it won't be too expensive.

From what I know - either find a complete donor truck and harvest the stuff from it, or spring for a Vintage Air kit. They actually make a complete kit for the 73-87 trucks, and there is a version for trucks that didn't come with air in the first place.

It's not the cheapest option, but I've heard their installations are really slick and it should be more powerful than the stock system it replaces.
