Ok, so the new motor has roughly an hour worth of total run time on it. This afternoon as I'm about to close the hood and go for the first ride I notice the a/c delete pulley appears to be wobbling. Just as I move in for a closer look the outer lip and first groove fall off as it they were cut off. WTH???? :dunno: The edges where it separated look like they melted apart, the remaining 3/4's of the pulley looks fine and the bearing spins smooth as silk.

This pulley assembly is a new Dorman part from O'Reillys that I installed with the sbc serpentine belt conversion. Initially I had a problem with an incorrect water pump pulley that was causing the belt to move back and forth on either the water pump or crank pulley while running. This has been corrected and aside from some very light fraying on the outer shoulder of the belt it looks ok. At no point did the belt move around on the pulley that's now broken.

Does anybody make an a/c delete pulley that's metal?

I've never seen a metal one. Although the quality of Dorman products is horrible now... I'd pick up a delete pulley from GM.

Is it a strange size pulley or can you swap some other grooved idler on there without changing belt sizes?

I didn't realize this was something available at GM. :thumb:

As for swapping pulleys I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking for a replacement.

Oreilly gates pulley book. Has a good spreadsheet of numbers and dimensions. I use it all the time when people have oddball idlers. I bet you can find something close.

Nice! Thank you sir!

i know its in one of their big green binders, every store should have one. Bring a digital micrometer with the old pulley. You'll probably need one of my fellow countermen to throw the numbers in the computerbot to to check if they have it or not though and how soon they can get it lol.
