Ok, so the new motor has roughly an hour worth of total run time on it. This afternoon as I'm about to close the hood and go for the first ride I notice the a/c delete pulley appears to be wobbling. Just as I move in for a closer look the outer lip and first groove fall off as it they were cut off. WTH????
The edges where it separated look like they melted apart, the remaining 3/4's of the pulley looks fine and the bearing spins smooth as silk.
This pulley assembly is a new Dorman part from O'Reillys that I installed with the sbc serpentine belt conversion. Initially I had a problem with an incorrect water pump pulley that was causing the belt to move back and forth on either the water pump or crank pulley while running. This has been corrected and aside from some very light fraying on the outer shoulder of the belt it looks ok. At no point did the belt move around on the pulley that's now broken.
Does anybody make an a/c delete pulley that's metal?
