Well the wife called me today telling me our 2000 tahoe is shreiking I went and inspected it makes the noise at about 2000rpm in park but goes away if the a/c is turned off. So More than likely im looking at a whole new compressor? I have noticed it blows cold air, but not REALLY cold air.

So if i pick up a new compressor, what else do i need to throw in there? New dryer?

I put a brand new napa belt on it about 4000 miles ago when I replaced the waterpump. So do you think i can get away with a new clutch? WAs it difficult to replace?

extended warranty.... and yeah the a/c compressor hangs in a shi88y spot to get to... I couldn't mine off between the motor and the frame rail. Paid the $100 to get Gm to do it. Shop price on the new cluth/install was over $800

shreiking? Does it sound like a slipping belt? Usually the clutch bearings or compressor bearings are more of a squall. Or a grinding noise.
If it sounds like a belt slipping, it might be. I have seen new belts be bad. Rubber too hard and they slip.
However, if it is the belt, I would suspect the tensioner. That AC compressor is about the highest load on the belt. If the tensioner had gotten weak, it might let the belt slip when the high load hits it.
One way to check, is to try turning the wheels back and forth while stopped on concrete. Its not a perfect test, the tensioner might be weak and still not show up then, but if the belt chirps when you load it with the power steering, I would be real suspicious of it.

I actually crawled underneath it today and realized it has its very own belt and tensioner seperate from the serpentine belt and tensioner. The belt was glazed on the backside and cracked all over on the ribbed portion, Gonna try a new belt since it could very well be the original with 89k on it, the tensioner has maybe 1/16" play in it side to side but spins freely, compressor does too without the clutch engaged

OH, ok, like you I was thinking it used the serp. With any luck, its just a worn belt.
Is that tensioner spring loaded, or just a loosen, pry and tighten type? If its that type, then you just need to do the usual. Replace the belt, tighten it up, run if a few dozen hours and check to see if it needs it again.
But, if its the spring loaded type, then the spring could be weak. Hard to tell unless there is a spring tension value in a manual somewhere.
I'm betting on a worn belt though.

It is the spring type, The belt is in bad shape, but i still think its a bearing, Any luck it will be the $20 tensioner pully

glad to hear that you got the banshee out of there. I hate it when they won't stop screaming

After you crawled under yours to find the compressor you can see why I wasn't interested in messing with mine.
