The air conditioner on my Suburban just started acting up, and the problem seems to be the low pressure cutoff switch (the compressor clutch engages when jumpered and low-side pressure looks fine with a gauge). Can I just unscrew the switch from the accumulator and replace it, or do I have to evacuate the system first? I didn't want to unscrew the switch and discover a high pressure jet of freon hiding behind it. Thanks.

You can just unscrew it. There's a Shrader valve in the fitting that prevents massive freon escape. :cool1:

Exactly, just be sure not to torque it down too much - its plastic and will break. Ask me how I learned this. :doah:
