ok on our 85 burb. Here is what is happening. When we turn on the a/c my voltage tach goes from normal to almost dead. Even while driving. If i leave the A/C controls on and turn off the burb when i go to start it. The battery is dead. Not to mention it does not blow cold anymore. What could be causing this to happen? Does the system need to be recharged?

Thanks in advance

Obviously you have a short in the system, Duh:p:
You need to figure out where.
Start by pulling the plug on the compressor and see if it still does, next try the plug on the dryer where the temp sensors are.
If those don't cure it, you might have a short in teh sliders on the controls and you need to change that.
Or maybe the wires somehwere are pinched??

The heater mode switch sends power up to the switch on the side of the receiver/dryer. That switch cycles the compressor on and off. If you unplug the switch, there should be no current draw from the system.
