Is a complete a/c system from an 81/82 pick up able to swap into a 79 blazer?
 
What about the consol? I currently don't have any vents in the dash, it was a heater only truck

Probably still fit, just not going to get much air out.........:D

I'm guessing you need the console from the other truck too, if its the same.
 
You would need the dash moulding for an AC truck. The dash pad is the same, but the moulding that screws onto it is different. The consol is the same.

What about the duct work behind the molding? I've never done a conversion like this, but I figure the heat only truck is also not going to have the ducts to connect to the openings in the dash.
 
I have the duct work for behind the dash and I have the moulding for the dash, I was just concerned about the consol fitting right, the controls swap over as well correct?
 
Jeez....anybody seen the price of 134a lately :eek1: $17.99 a can
 
I haven't looked recently, but bought two cans of 134A last month at Wally World for $10.97. I did find a can of R-12 in my shop, I guess it would be worth a couple of hundred bucks now. LOL

They are supposedly replacing R134a in new cars next year with 1234yf and "phasing out" 134a altogether.

Yeah, I have been looking into that swap. Looks like a typical government screwup.
The initial cost is going to be from $40 to $60 per pound.

Its going to require new equipment to service it, it is said that any car part that has been used with another refrigerant must not be used with this, so no junkyard evaporators. And no retrofitting.
Its mildly flammable and heavier than air, so grease pits might blow up if you park a car with a leak over it and then strike a flame.

But, the real fun starts when it get loose into the atmosphere.
While it has almost no "Global Warming Potential", it will degrade into trifluoroacetic acid.
That stuff is a strong organic acid.
To make matters worse, it forms an azeotrope in water. Which means when it mixes with it, you cannot get it back out by distillation.

Weren't some of the tree huggers worried about the oceans becoming more acidic? Wait until we start dumping a few tons of an acid that is 100,000 times more acidic than acetic acid into the ocean.
Plus, of course, if you get air in your system, and the stuff breaks down into that acid, there goes all the parts of your system......
 
This is insane...we should have never left R12...there is no real scientific evidence that it did anything....the so called "ozone hole" has only been tracked for 30 or so years....that's not enough data in the big scheme of things to make ANY determination....but that's my opinion...
