So i saw links for a 2016 Ford Bronco based on the raptor. Even as a Chevy guy it looked awesome and of course it's a hoax. Seeing this, it made me wish for a Retro K5.

It really got me thinking though. Trucks are very popular, as are the retro hot rods. Blazers and Broncos are/were very popular. Why is Chevy and Ford not capitalizing on this? I'm sure they'd make a lot of money, especially with performance options available to sweeten the deal.

Because Broncos and Blazers aren't old enough. The only people that like them, already own them. I don't foresee anyone with an old blazer trading it in for a new one. I also don't see anyone that doesn't already own a Blazer, rushing out to buy a two door SUV and pay more than a 4 door Yukon.

I'd rather them NOT bring it back. It'll just end up a joke like the SSR/El Camino.

Didn't you know the K5 is coming back for 2017? It will have coil-overs at all 4 corners, 1-ton solid axles, supercharged LS6.2 and 6-speed manual available.

To add, the Camaro/Charger/Mustang throwbacks are for 60s muscle/pony cars. To find one in really good shape, modern convieinces, and daily drivable is going to cost big bucks. Most yuppie people would rather have something that looks similar but cheaper, hence the throwbacks.

Lol
And Id still rather take RaiderBlaz's K5

Also this one: http://www.2016releasedateprice.com/2016-chevy-blazer-k-5-concept/

Still, I would love to see them bring this back. One could order a base model without all the stupid navigation crap, do a SAS up front and swap some tons in pretty easily, and you could ahve a modern K5 with "hopefully" factory LS power! Just saying

Has to have removable top, but I've never even seen a concept with one. I like the lastest bronco concept.

Well, I'm not suggesting they would be a replacement for our trucks. I'd see a lot of people having both. The old one for the original and as a toy you can beat on, and the new one as a convenient daily driver with all modern amenities

Considering the new Colorado fully loaded and tricked out is almost $40k, I would think that this would come in north of that. I can't imagine it ever getting built as the demographics wanting one and affording one would be limited.

But you never know, GM sold a lot of Hummer branded vehicles before pulling the plug and I never would have thought people would buy as many of those as they did.

Do you remember this one? At least it had a removable top.

If they did make one, it would probably be more like this one, but nobody would buy it since the 4-door version isn't much longer.

Meh, no 4 doors for me thanks. No 4 door tahoes, yukons, no suburbans. They've been there, done that.

Make it a true Blazer with a removable top, 2 doors and tough as nails, or don't make it at all. People buy expensive Jeeps all the time. Or I guess you could make a 2 and 4 door variant. Jeep did, and it is doing very well. Throw a diesel in there that gets good mpgs to help sell.

And for God sakes make it a sexy bad ass beast of a rig :haha: All we need is another fugly cookie cutter SUV, wait, didn't all those fail out late 90s, early 00s? Sure GM, bring back a failure econobox SUV, that'll work

I dig the older dark maroon concept K5 to a point, that bright red one is what I consider a fugly cookie cutter econobox suv. The two pictures on the gearhead website are meh, its only the tires/light rack that even makes it look sorta cool.

Why do jeeps sell? Because they look cool. Stock or modified, they just are a nicely shaped design, they're rugged, can do some serious off-roading stock, they're meant to, even the new ones are MEANT to be taken off road. Same thing with a lot of non-US land rovers. These are all expensive rigs, 2 doors or 4 with not great gas milage, and they sell.

GM will fail this, because they're going to make a fuggly soccer mom SUV designed for the street. SUVs didn't die out with the crossover craze, just most of them, the strong survived and are still kickin' it.

It's amazing nobody can look at the success of the Wrangler and figure out how to get in on the action. Ford has the Bronco and Chevy has the K5, but they won't do it. I don't know if they're too stupid to figure out the formula, or what... Toyota sort of tried with the FJ but really just failed to make it quite right, in large part because they wouldn't put in a solid front axle.

Ford does have the Raptor, but those things are serious $$, and no solid axle. Power Wagon... don't know what to think about that. Maybe it's just too big and work truck looking to hit the trail demographic.

Sadly, there are indications the Wrangler will lose the solid axles and body on frame design in the next iteration. Our whole sport may be built on used vehicles going forward.

Yeah, I have heard this too. Not necessarily does that mean our whole sport will be built on used vehicles, but is sure does mean that if you want a "newer" wheeler you are going to have to SAS just about everything.
