I need to redo the exhaust on my truck over the winter and have a few questions.

First, I need to run shorty headers both for driveshaft clearance and belly clearance. Any advice? I'm not interested in ceramic coated headers, something more middle of the line. Something like these maybe?

Next, I'll be running a doubler with a 205 clocked flat. I know that some people run a single pipe down the driver's side and seems some still get away with dual exhaust. I think I'd prefer to run dual exhaust to keep the exhaust up higher. Anyone have pictures of dual exhaust with a doubler setup?

And finally, I need to choose a muffler. I've had Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on the truck for a while, I'm ready for something quieter. The big problem, however, is that I doubt I have room for two fullsize mufflers under my rig. Its looking like I'm going to have to run a tubular, Cherry Bomb style muffler. Any suggestions?

TIA

had the second ones down(7426) can't get much smaller than that. Comparable to a 40series. Not any louder IMO. But a nice sound nothing, monatenous like a magnaflow.

There's very little room underneath my truck

I'm not sure about your exhaust fit issues... but a set of zoomies would give you plenty of space underneath. :)

Here's a shot of mine passenger side when I had duals. I don't remember how much of your frame is left, but it's tight if you want to run it above the lower frame rail. Mine was only rotated up 2" so if you went more than that, you might be able to tuck it up there below the edge of the 205.

You may not have the same issues as me, but I didn't like how hot my frame got in that area with the brake and fuel lines so I changed to a single exhaust.

Most of the frame is still there, I just cut off the last 18" or so.

I didn't think about it before but I could probably run the passenger exhaust pipe up and over the t-case since flooring isn't really an issue for me, especially that far back in the truck.

Keep the ideas coming though guys :thumb:

im currently going throught the same problem with my belly flat 208...u will run into some linkage problems with the manual linkage on the drivers side it u run 2 shorties...clarkjw24 runs one on the pass and a long tube on the drivers side...im gonna try to cut my header and move the collector back so i dont have to buy shorties well see though..this is also another idea

Since I am going to be pulling the buggy down for the KOH race prep here shortly I will try to get a few pics of how my exhuast is run.

You know how loud my buggy is and I am running a 2.5" summit cheapo cherry bomb on each side of the transfer case. My frame rails are narrower inside than what you have so I think you have a bit of room but the pipes get real close to the frame and the t case.

Exactly. They have the long tube header "shape", but are nowhere near as "tall" as normal long tubes. The pictures on summitracing.com for that part number is obviously wrong. hedman.com probably has a real picture of them, but so does the linked thread.

Can't find a similar product uncoated though. The 69830's aren't really that much though, are they?

Why dual exhaust? Im running 2.5" off the stock manifolds, then into a flowmaster merge pipe (dual 2.5" in/single 3" out) The pass side goes forward, under the oilpan, then back into the merge pipe. The exhaust travels back into a 3" In/Out Thrush Dual chamber muffler and then a turn out. Works good for me.

You can usually run duals without much complex bending. Running over to the other side of the vehicle (especially like what you have, it sounds like) would require a bender, or taking it to someone to bend up, right?

I was able to put my duals together using stock parts on the NAPA shelf. But I didn't have a doubler to clear though, either.

I did my exhaust with 2 J-bends, 1 U-bend, 1 Merge pipe, 1 3" straight pipe, 1 3" 90 degree bend and a muffler. Im pretty sure the total cost was under $200
