I needed an angle grinder so to home depot I went:D. I picked up 85-100 dollar makitas and actually plugged them in, then I tried this millwaukee and it def had more power ,and just felt Sturdier than some other more expensive ones.So I bought one, and it kicks ass. Don't think just because its cheaper its not as good. Because it is. I can vouche for it. 59 bucks! http://www.google.com/m/products/de...&ptab=c&ei=qKWbTsjtJ6G2NPKiAQ&ved=0CCMQ8wIwBA

i like my makita. I have a makita and 2 harbor frieght ones. Whenever i have to do a punishing job i grab the HF one and abuse it.

Not bashing makita but, You should try this Milwaukee, it might change your mind.I'm no grinder expert, but like I said, just for the price I like it!

Milwaukee makes great power tools if you don't mind the weight. I have a 10 amp 4.5" grinder that's a monster. Not a fun tool to hold overhead all day though lol.

If you ever have the chance to check out a Metabo...they are worth the $300 if you could actually afford them. I've got some Metabo's that are over 15 years old that are still some of my favorite tools.

We have a 15 amp 4 horse Milwaukee we use with a 9" grinding wheel at work for when we need to move some material. That thing is a beast.

+1

Metabo grinders are the best grinders in existence.

X2 for Metabo

I've had one of the variable speed 5" for several years now, and replaced the brushes only once. It's been an excellent grinder. The variable speed is the sh!t for aluminum and stainless.

A few years back when HD first came out with the Rigid line of tools, the 4.5" grinder was made by Metabo. I paid about $90.00 for mine, and has been an excellent grinder. After I convinced myself that the Rigid grinder was a good deal, they stopped carrying them. Now the 4.5 Rigid grinder is made in China.

Sometimes you can find decent deals on Metabo grinders on ebay.

Yeah, but if someone cld compare the Milwaukee to something equal in price, with the same quality, cld it be done? What else is that good for 60 bucks? I'm thinkin about returning My Milwaukee. Now!!!!:haha:

The thing with Harbor Freight is they have, say, three or four models of any given tool type. The really cheap one is stupidly low-priced and is utter crap. A $20 sawzall works exactly as well and as long as you'd expect. :poo:

The next pricier one(s) will be about the same price/quality as the low-end models from e.g. Home Depot or whatever, because they come from the same factory in China. They may even have a fancy one that's remarkably similar to a mid-range model from the other brands.

The one thing HF does that most vendors don't is crazy sales, i.e. 1/3 or half off. The trick, then, is to get the mid-range ones when they're on sale. You're still only getting a mid-quality tool, but for the price it's hard to argue.

I have several of their 4.5" grinders, each with a different wheel (grinder, cutoff, flapdisc, wirewheel), so I don't have to change heads while working, just grab another grinder. I figure at $20 per I'm in for the same kind of money as if I'd bought one decent one, and worst case if one blows up I still have three more.

I used to have one extended warranty and replace whichever burnt out, but I haven't killed one in several years -- either I'm slowing down or HF's quality is improving :haha:

Anyway, point being that you totally get what you pay for, but sometimes that's okay.

Hell I followed that Google shopping link and found the 7 amp Milwaukee for $39.99 factory reconditioned...That's about the same price you'd pay at Harbor Freight when you pay full price. I had to stop myself, I almost ordered one and I've already got plenty of grinders :doah:

Ahh i just noticed side switch....

:doah:

I hate those with a passion. It has to be paddle or i want no part of it

Ive been beating on my makita for 10 years, 5 of them super hard. And it just keeps going with no work done to it.

Im looking to add a 7 or 9in to the arsenal and think I may go HF considering it wont be the primary grinder.

What, you enjoy keeping your thumbs? :haha:

My friend had a HF slide switch grinder.

granted the events leading up to this were his demise.

No guard on it, and no handle.

Under his car cutting rotor dust sheild off.. grinder catches an edge and flys into his shirt. button is stuck on. Grinder is wedged while running right on his shirt sleeve for a good 3 seconds before he is able to unplug it.

It cut his bicept in half, about 1 1/2in from the elbow straight to the bone.

180 stiches in 3 layers later he was sewed up. it BARELY missed cuttin his entire bicept off.

Needless to say i am going to stick to paddles. Plus i like em better anyways
