Did my U joints, I EVER SO DELICATELY cleaned up the holes for the caps.

When installing there were a couple where the caps could spin pretty easily in the yoke.

Am I &%$#ed?!

are the holes in the yoke ears worn? i've never seen caps move very easily with everything being in spec. i'd compare them to the old ones, first thing, to see if there is a difference.

Well unfortunately they've all been done. They are all pretty consistant. I used calipers to measure. And got 1.18 to 1.19 inches diameter.

Thing is they were a serious biatch to get out, so for them to spin is pretty weird. Of course these things were brutally rusty and at least one was probably original.

are these new u joints, or did you clean and reinstall the same ones? if there new i would double check the part # parts store screw up frequently. if there the ones you pulled out and cleaned then i would probly just spend the couple dollars and get new u joints. they say you should replace them every 2 years or so. just depends on how hard you use your truck

yeah that seems to always happen to me. are you talking about after you put the new ujoints in and put the snap rings in place it was really hard to do?

i always hear its cause you end up bending the actual ears of the driveshaft just a hair when pushing the old ones or htey do that over time.

a little trick i do is if the u joint requires those snap rings that snap over the top part of the caps, take those snap rings to a bench grinder and just grind a littttttttle bit off of each them and then push the caps out to loosen them and then back in and snap the rings in and see if that freed it up any

Hehehe no actually just the opposite. When installing the new ones, there were a couple of caps that actually spun freely in the yoke hole!

When the u-joint cap spins in the yoke the yoke is bad. Unfortunately it's time for a driveshaft rebuild, new yoke(s).

X2 Caps should not spin in the yoke. They will very quickly egg out the yoke and then you will lose the u-joints. It is time for new/rebuilt driveshaft's.

for what you would pay for a used shaft and then have to pay to have it shortened or lenghen you could have a new cv driveshaft. or take your old one and get new yokes put on it. couldnt cost that much
